According to DP "most people" have eaten dinner by 6pm.

Referring to adults, not children.

He's obsessed with eating at a time I consider pretty early.

I'm giving him the side eye Hmm

A lot of people don't finish work until 6pm.

No, I'd guess most adults haven't started eating, or in many cases even cooking by 6pm. A lot (more in normal times) won't be back home after work and commute.
Anything before 6pm is surely 'high tea', not 'dinner' anyway, isn't it?Grin

We have dinner between 5-6pm as we eat with our DS and both prefer an early dinner!

No way. I have dinner around 8:30 pm.

I would eat at 530pm every day. Dh is naturally a late eater. We compromise and start cooking at 6pm to eat around 630pm.

Usually have it 6pm but that's because ds swim trains at 7.30 a few evenings a week.

In lockdown we've pretty much continued this. Seems a right time for us and works well. I couldn't imagine having dinner earlier but if no swimming or lockdown we have had it later.

I would imagine most people aren't even home at that time.

I don’t finish work until after 6pm. If I was in the office rather than wfh I wouldn’t be home until 7-7.30pm at the earliest.

If I ate before 6 I'd need another meal before I went to bed. I eat at 8. Early dinner does seem to be an odd English quirk though, one that I think is slowly dying out.

Tbf as an adult I have always had dinner by 7pm at the absolute latest, unless I have plans to eat with other people however I have friends who are not always done at 10pm, so you're not alone!

Is he a lot older than you 😁Tell him only elderly people eat before 6.
It’s generally 6.30 - 7 here.

9pm in my house when I am working, between 7-8pm while I am working from home

Depends on demographic I think. Commuters from london wont even be home . However yes in the town I grew up 5.30 was quite normal for dinner.

Jeez what time do you need to be back from work to have eaten by 6?!! Don't think that's true at all for most folks

Unless eating with small children I would think an adult eating dinner before 6pm was weird.

Someone preparing for a night shift obviously excluded.

This may be a cultural thing - I believe Europeans tend to eat later, Americans eat earlier.

I'm born and bred English, we eat dinner (tea?) at 7pm.

When it's not lockdown we have dinner at around 18.30, these days I put off cooking and eat later. I still haven't eaten or indeed decided what to have, I'm so demotivated 😬
