Child in the supermarket?

Just curious, do you take your child/children with you when you go food shopping?
I’m currently a Sahm to my toddler Dd and always used go go early on a Monday morning, when barely anyone was there.
During the first lockdown, we stopped going and Dp would go on a Saturday morning.
Dp works Mon-Fri and often was there for hours queuing up etc, but back then he was the only one of us that went out (aside from walks in our field)
When it calmed down a little, I went back to doing it with my Dd, do you take yours?
For us, it helps dp as he obviously doesn’t mind at all, but after a long week at work, it’s not fun to do the big shop. It’s also some kind of normality in mine and DD’s life, but I’ve started to feel a bit worried about it. We’re not in the U.K. but cases are around the same number one more or less and some of my friends don’t take theirs into any shops
Aibu to still take her shopping or should dp or myself go alone on the weekend?

Go at the weekend. Kids shouldn’t be in shops at the moment.

Can you get a delivery ? Otherwise I avoid taking mine with me and one of us goes alone at weekend or on day off.

I take ds just for the entertainment to be honest. It's hard being a child in this pandemic. There's nothing open for them to do. They need a change of scenery too. So I just put ds in the trolley seat and left him use the scan as you shop beeper thing. He loves it and it's an activity for the day

Sorry.....or DH stays home while I go alone.

I try very hard no to. Like you am sahm and DH doesn't work at home. We generally get by with online if I can get a slot or a weekend shop but I do need to occasionally top up stuff. I either Ask DH if it's simple stuff that's in the corner shop and he does it on the way home or I just take the kids. I try to do it in small local shops which tend to be more controlled than our local supermarket but I figure if you need food then you don't have a choice.

If there's another adult around you should leave young children at home. I'm a single parent, don't drive so my teen helps me shop and carry shoppingg home but the difference is he is older, mature and knows the suppermarket rules , toddlers don't.

My husband works away during the week to there a time when I have no choice but to take the kids with me. However I go when the shops are likely to be quiet so either first thing or later or later in the day. I avoid going at weekends completely. I think going with kids when its quiet is safer than going on my own to a packed supermarket.

Yes I often have no choice unless it's now acceptable to leave a 1 year old at home.

DH is a key worker often doing 15 hour days and getting a delivery slot where I love is less likely than it raining fivers.

Put on Peppa Pig and it'll be fine! 😉

I'd go in the evening when DP is home from work. Much quieter than weekends.

We get deliveries when we can, but yes otherwise I do take mine. We don't drive and live up a steep hill, so I either go to the shop 2 or 3 times a week with the kids (while DH is working) or we go all together as a family on Saturday. There's no way I could carry a week's worth of shopping by myself while also pushing the double buggy up the hill.

Why can't DP stay at hone with the DC he hardly sees all week, while you go at the weekend?

Best to go at the weekend. No need to put anyone at greater risk than necessary.

Yes but I'm a single parent so no choice really. I wouldn't take him if I had a partner.

Why can't one of you go alone at the weekend, take the buggy to wheel the shopping home?

Not at the moment - one of us goes at 5 when we finish work. We took DS in if we were passing and needed milk or bread in July-October though.

You go at the weekend whilst your partner spends time with his daughter after working all week.

Can you get a click and collect and take little one with you to pick it up?

😅 The amusing thing is there are people on this site that actually would probably suggest that in all seriousness.

Alas he doesn't like Peppa so it'll have to be either Bing bastard bunny or hey Duggee. Grin

As you've got the option, I'd not take a small child into a supermarket at the moment. I can't remember the last time my son (4) went into a shop. Obviously if you were a single parent etc then you'd have no choice.
I also think you should be the one to do it at a weekend to give your working partner a break.

Dh has dds and I go out shopping. My bill doubles if they come with me anyway, so it’s best they stay home.
I’m going tonight after work. I’m also known to go late at night like 9pm. Lovely and quiet then.

@WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants I'm guessing you've never tried to push an overloaded 3-wheeled double buggy up a hill - it tips backwards! It's not a shopping trolley!
