AIBU?

Sobbing after whisky?

Anyone else get wildly overly emotional with spirits?

Came home from work and had a glass of a whisky my dad gave me. Cue actual sobbing and horrible feelings. I know life isn't easy right now, but still...

This also happens to me with gin. Anyone else?

Why does this happen with spirits whereas with wine or beer you can get much drunker but nowhere near as OTT?!

Yeah, its a thing. Mine is vodka. I don't get it with gin.

I don't know if it's an alcohol level or the speed they get drunk at.

Yup I the opposite to TheMobileSite, gin can make me turn into a bubbling mess. Vodka I have no emotions. Unfortunately can't stomach vodka anymore.

Yep, vodka and white wine. Both turn me into a dumped 17yo that listens to smashing pumpkins.

I'm 37 and have now learned these things.

So weird isn't it?! Gin doesn't seem to touch me.

I have a couple of family members who get very aggressive after having a few sips of whiskey. Both are very quiet pleasant people but can never drink whiskey.

Apparently it's all psychological though- I'm reading a few articles now and there doesn't seem to be any scientific research that definitely shows spirits fuck your emotions up more than beer or wine. Weird.

Gin does it to me.

I’m fine with all other spirits (I don’t like wine or beer). It’s only ever gin.

I don’t even have to be feeling a bit blue to start with so it’s not like it’s exacerbating my existing mood. I can be as happy as Larry, having fun on a night out, one G&T and bang, emotions everywhere

Yes gin is definitely a bad one. Whisky is an absolute killer though. Shame because I really like the taste and warmth Sad

Alcohol is alcohol is alcohol. You know that right? It can’t affect you differently in a whisky to a beer.

My previous boss was a coldhearted asshole, but we always knew when he’d had gin the night before because he’d break down and sob in the middle of a meeting and be back to his old stoney faced self approximately two minutes later.

Of course it does! A 40+proof whiskey or two is a bit different to half a pint of lager.

Vodka turns my sister into a nutjob. Every time she starts on it everyone runs away.

Yep, vodka does that to me too.

Rum has the opposite effect and always makes me cheery.

I love whisky but know that I should never drink it if I'm feeling down as it will make me cry!

Red wine makes me down for days after drinking it, it’s never as bad with other alcohol.

It's all in your heads! Gin is just vodka with flavourings. Unless you think that juniper has mind bending properties?
