Fuck off??

Well am I unreasonable?!?

People I know in real life who I always thought of as lovely seem to have developed a need to post every single bit of homeschooling on insta with smug happy children, all smiles and love and look at our little wonderful bubble.

I know behind the scenes it's probably not quite as all smiles as they suggest.

Most of it seems to be 'look at me I thought of this fantastic activity for my delightful smiling easy children'
It's bullshit isn't it?

But what compels people to do it??

I'm not even that bitter. We're doing OK with homeschooling. We post the work to the teachers teams page and that's that. I know lots of people are struggling so would never dream of posting how brilliant it is everywhere (it isn't brilliant)

Maybe I just needed that rant.

This is why I don't use social media - full of smug posts, fake lives and lies! Step away!

To share ideas, so their friends and family can see what they are up to, so they can get a bit of a pat on the back for doing something we all struggle with... there's a million reasons.

See it for what it is: attention seeking behaviour.

Yep - I know someone who created a specific photo album on Facebook and uploaded every single days activity, crafting, special projects, walking scavenger hunts - I spent most of the time wrestling the remote away from my DC!
Come off Facebook now so no idea if it's been continued for this lockdown Hmm

Alternatively, lying through their pearly whites! Twas ever so.

The mother of a family we knew long before social media told us about their wonderful holiday, little traffic, children sat beautifully in the back seat, first off the ferry etc etc. The father complained to my OH they had been stuck for hours in traffic, the b........ little swines had trashed the car with food and fighting and they had waited two hours to get off the ferry because the car in front's driver was missing!
The same mother was once telling anyone who couldn't avoid her at their child's birthday party how no processed food ever got within 100 miles of their house, when he came into the kitchen carrying a box of Birds Eye burgers!
Stop being so gullible, a word missing from most dictionaries.

It’s shit and is going to make some people feel like shit that they can’t dedicate time to the children’s learning because they are working, on calls etc, looking after tiny children. There’s a lot of it about right now.

But social media is rife with this. My ‘friend’ likes to use it to brag out her baby being so advanced by teething early or sleeping through the night or rolling in a mat or whatever, when she was pregnant she used it to brag about how she’d sailed through and ‘caught’ pregnant the first time she tried and what a breeze it all was (because she didn’t work and could put her feet up all day)

But I actually think her life has become tiny due to not working or socialising much for a year and this is what gets her through. Still irritating as fuck and unnecessarily smug though.

On Facebook I unfollow people I find irritating. It's not hard to do. Some people love to see this sort of thing that their family and friends are doing when they can't see them. I understand where you're coming from but I think you're U not to see that people can use their social media how they want to.

I should post the pictures and the hashtags of my DD spilling a full glass of milk on abusive ex's laptop just as she was logging on to a maths zoom lesson. Homeschooling is a nightmare and they are FUCKING LIARS. Tell them to shove their Instagram up their arse.

Other people’s instagrams full of furloughed/SAHP family fun actually brought me to tears on more than one occasion during the first lockdown while I killed myself ft wfh, homeschooling and looking after a toddler.

I just stopped looking. Feel much better for it.

It is a bit smug but not necessarily lies. Not everyone is miserable home schooling.

I quite liked Giovanna Fletcher in I'm a Celeb even though I usually find the pair of them insufferable - I remembered why she grates on me when they shared their "home school set up" recently and the media picked up on it. Pair of smuggy mcsmugfaces showing us all how to do it properly!

All social media is about attention seeking though, why does it have to be a bad thing if someone is uploading pics of a good part of a shitty day in order to be told they are doing a great job?

Stop being so gullible not gullible at all thanks, maybe it makes you feel better to think your friends are lying and secretly struggling though 🤷‍♀️

I think if I’d of posted every single day. People would of gotten bored very quickly

I home educate anyway - nothing to do with covid (and not home schooling)
I post on Instagram to share ideas and to keep a record of my children's leaning/achievements (I never post pictures of them just what we are doing) photos often spark interesting discussions.

I already feel guilty for loaning about people.

I appreciate it's their own social media and can do as they please.

I'm also not gullible enough to believe they are having an amazing time

However, it does scream of attention seeking when the posts are all day everyday.

I had my rant, I feel better now!

My sister in-law regularly puts loads of guff like this on her social media when I know that said activities outings were a disaster from my brother. I feel she does it to validate herself, it's kind of tragic

One of my sons is home schooled anyway, along with thousands of others , so l find all this excessive " look what we' ve done" quite amusing. But each to their own.

Same here, except it’s literally just photos of her kids doing worksheets and walking the dogs every single day for the whole of the first lockdown. She started it up again this time so I’ve hidden her.

A colleague of mine when she had her baby said she felt this need to post on Social Media to show that she was still living a life and having a great time and felt pressure to do so. But she said in reality she was isolated lost and lonely so social media was a crutch for her. Also people tend to show the nice joyful things on Social Media, it's just a snippet of someones day, reality is always different.

I got one on FB and put her on snooze for thirty days. We home educate anyway but keep in touch with my old friends from the school and know others are struggling a lot. I’m guessing I’m not only one that has snoozed her
