Hi everyone

Posting for traffic.

My lovely, 5 year old sprocker spaniel has been whimpering/pacing/crying ALL day today.

He normally goes for a wee when I get up at 6-7, has some biscuits then lays on my bed or his bed and sleeps most of the day before a walk.

Today he has been the total opposite, I've filled his water bowl with fresh water, he's been walked off lead, I've topped his biscuits up, I've given him cuddles, all the fuss he usually has, he's weeing and been for a number 2, I've played with him on my lunch break with his rope.

I don't know what is wrong with him, I've felt his tummy in case he has tummy ache but he doesn't respond negatively to that, I've checked his paws, his mouth, his eyes there is nothing obvious at all.

He usually sleeps most the day and then has a walk and then he curls up for the night with us. I cannot figure out what is bothering him and it's driving me mad!

@SchrodingersImmigrant I will see if he's still doing it tomorrow, if so, I'll take him.

Can he hear something you can’t? Bird scarer?

Ladylimpet · 20/01/2021 20:51

I work in a vets.. monitor him tonight and if he's still the same tomorrow, get him an appointment.
Could be something has really spooked him if he's sensitive? Anything you can think of?
But definitely get him checked if still doing tomorrow. Could be something/nothing. Hope he's ok (sure he is).

Is he entire? Bitch in season?
Is he peeing more or less than normal? UTI?

@GalOopNorth @Ladylimpet he is a sensitive soul! Cries if the cat brings in a dead mouse or bird but that's been ticked off the box!

No loud noises, apart from it being windy which has never bothered him before.

He's had gastroenteritis before but I knew something was wrong as he kept stretching his stomach and wouldn't drink or eat.

This is something I'm not used to and it's thrown me! He's normally very chilled (well for a spaniel anyway!)

Thank you and will take him to vet tomorrow if he's the same.

Yeah. It may not be nothing serious, but if he keeps doing this it's better to get him checked.

@Wolfiefan he's still got his bits. Toilets are the same as usual. No difference.

My Springer is prone to ear infections. Could it be something like that with your dog? See if they are gunky/hot/smelly.

Report
dreamadream1 · 20/01/2021 20:55

@theconstantinoplegardener thank you! Have checked his ears, no off smells, isn't bothered when I have a look or touch them.

Does your pet insurance come with vet calls? Some do video calls and you don't need to worry about office hours.

Has someone been in/out the house more than usual? Anything changed? My greyhound went in a proper huff for 2 days cos we moved the living room furniture.

Have you had any new appliances in your home?
My parents got a new dishwasher recently. Turns out it emmits some sort of frequency during it's cycle that absoulety terrifies thier Jack Russell. She literally weddge herself under the sofa and shakes Sad. It can only be put on a short wash while she's out for her walk now!

@TheMobileSiteMadeMeSignup @DorothyCotton nothing I can think of! Me working from home as usual, husband out and working and home as usual. No new appliances, no new furniture or lay out. I'm racking my brain here lol.

@TheMobileSiteMadeMeSignup I will speak to vet tomorrow, he's insured, not sure about video calls but not worried about cost as long as he's okay.

My spaniel was pacing and whimpering and really unsettled a few weeks ago but this was after a walk when he had hurt his leg. He was fine within a few hours. I guess he could be in pain. Normally mine does not leave my side but on this occasion he was taking himself off to be alone.

Our collie is being the same today, a total pain in the ass. Will not settle up and down, barking and crying, sniffing and rooting about, annoying our other dog.
Maybe there's something in the planets, not worries he's ill!

If he's entire, it sounds like there could be a bitch in heat nearby. They can be utterly insatiable if that's the case!

Report
raspberryk · 20/01/2021 21:05

I’d say there’s probably a bitch in heat quite locally, if he’s entire!

Lol @raspberrysundaes great names think alike

Are we to expect earthquake or something with all the dogs behaving oddly? 👀

Report
dreamadream1 · 20/01/2021 21:13

@raspberrysundaes @raspberryk do you know what's weird about you both saying that is sometimes in the day I walk with my friend (distanced) and her female dog who is in season! We are keen for them to have babies but haven't seen anything happen yet, could this be the reason?

Why are you so keen on pups? And don’t walk an entire male with a bitch in season. Shock

dreamadream1 · 20/01/2021 21:25

@Wolfiefan they are both spaniels and we decided to breed them together? I don't know what else you'd want me to say here. I'm not the female dogs owner, I have no idea about female dogs as have never owned one.
