OK. So I lost my temper a bit and wound my window down to shout. Maybe I should have asked if she was OK first!

I was driving down a single lane, potholes and all. A woman was coming walking towards me and I wish I had an Idiot Walker Bingo card.

1. Mask tucked under her chin
2. Phone tucked under her ear, chatting
3. Scratching a long length of scratch cards

I slowed and pulled across the road as far from her as possible.

She walked partway onto a drive

As I waited she walked - didn't stumble or anything, just walked - out in front of my car.

I had stopped she didn't even notice and actually walked into the front of my car.

At that point I wound my window down and, as she screamed at me, or whoever it was she was on the phone to, that I had run her over. I shouted back and wasn't particularly polite about it!

She eventually walked round my car and we both went off on our way.

But fuck! She scared the hell out of me!

I drive that road every day, to walk the dog. There are always people, kids, dogs there. But I've never seen anyone with as little self awareness!

And having typed that I feel calmer, but FFS!

There are some self involved people out there.
Two people together but socially distancing on opposite sides of a track so you have to pass between them. Single file people!
Groups stopping to have a chat on the narrowest part of the track.
People who stop in shop doorways to check their change or whatever.
Lots of dog walkers who hop to the opposite side of a single-track to their dog to let a jogger pass, even though everyone know the dog is now going to cross in front of the jogger to get to their owner.

You are being unreasonable re the mask, she doesn’t need it on outside and was probably having it like that ready to pull up when She needed to.

Not sure what the mask or scratch cards have to do with anything? But yes it is annoying when people are on their phone and not paying attention. I dont understand why you were so scared - you had seen her and slowed right down but the sounds of it so you weren't in any danger.

No she doesn’t. You are not in charge of current policy so please don’t make your opinion law. I will not wear a mask outside and if you don’t like it then it is up to you to stay away from me. The law is on my side in this.

what's the point in wearing it to keep lifting it up and down, it cross infects onto your hands and face, guidance said that from the word go.
might as wellnot wear one if you are going tokeep messing around with it.

Well she's an idiot if she walked into a stationary car. And so oblivious that she didn't know it was stationary.

I've seen similar things too often in supermarket car parks when I've been looking in 6 different directions trying to reverse and some twonk walks out from between 2 cars not paying any attention that my large tank is moving in her direction.

I hope the shouting didn't scare the dog.

Scratch cards are relevant because she was looking at them and not watching where she was going.

She didn't need it. She was utside, alone.

I mean unless you wear your mask absolutely constantly its going to get touched by your hands etc isn’t it I stick mine in my pocket when I’m using it and take it out and put it on with my hands, what else are you supposed to do? What’s the difference of having it under your chin? I can’t get worked up about it.

Masks should not be worn on chins, yes she doesn't have to have one on outside but when you are not wearing your mask correctly, you should remove it touching only the straps and place it in whatever container you use to keep it clean.

I assume that's why the OP mentioned it, because how to wear and use masks to maximise effectiveness has been well publicised.

The inside of the mask is in direct contact with your nose & mouth, so any viru on inside of mask will be breathed in when you put mask on. If your chin area is uncovered then there’s a risk that it’s been exposed to virus, so when you pull it down over your chin/ neck, the inside of the mask is directly on a virus-filled surface, which you then will breathe in when you pull the mask up. Obviously this only happens if your chin area has been exposed to the virus in the first place.
However very few people use masks “properly” all the time, and they protect others even if they don’t help the wearer much. I don’t wear mine if out alone for some exercise or a walk.

I’m not sure how the mask chin-sling is relevant to someone being so oblivious to the moving tonne of metal right beside them.

The twins (were you there?) were further up the road, playing in a puddle in the car park.

You both had a close call, you were both scared and shocked by what happened hopefully she will learn from this and be more aware and cautious when walking on a road. The most important thing is nobody was hurt. You are probably still a bit shaken go and have a cuppa, gather your thoughts and calm mask wearing is irrelevant here take it back to basics, human error im sure

The mask thing was me noticing, it was odd, as was her whole behaviour! That was the point of it. A weird moment or two in my day!

It's really weird that so many posters are reading so much into what I observed. It was what it was. She was oblivious and could have got herself badly hurt!

No I never said you made it up, I just thought the scratch cards but was odd, I’ve never seen someone able to chat, walk and scratch cards simultaneously, but then I guess that why she nearly got run over.
