To ask what winds you up even though you know it’s irrational

Lighthearted (I think!)

A few things popped into my head today which irrationally annoy me and I figured I can’t be the only one who gets irrationally angry about stuff like this

Those I can think of now are

  • People who say ‘I don’t drive’ when they actually can’t drive - you wouldn’t say you ‘don’t perform brain surgery’ if you can’t so why is it different with driving

  • People with double barrelled / hyphenated first names, eg, Peggy Sue - I’ve never heard one that doesn’t sound twee and they just make me think of weird American cults

  • people who still have their Christmas trees up

I realise none of these things actually affect me - they just annoy me! 😂

What winds you up?

People who laugh when nothing's funny. I know it makes me sound like a miserable twat and I'm really not but it bugs me.
The Scottish antiques woman on TV does it - says hello and then they laugh. Anita?

Apps that clearly state they have in app purchases luring you in, treating you well and then demending money. Cheek of it! Grin

The driving one really annoys me too, especially as most people don't drive just assume because we do that we are happy to be there Taxi on a night out et cetera

People who go for a walk and call it 'blowing away the cobwebs'.

Usually said by the same sort of people who post memes saying things like 'a Sunday well spent brings a week of content' and have 'live laugh love' decals on their walls.

People posting on here asking for ‘line eyes’.

99% of the time there’s no line, and some randoms on the internet saying they can see one doesn’t help. Just do another one in a couple of days.

People getting in the wrong line at petrol stations and stretching the hose over the car.
Men whistling.

An increasingly proportion of the population who start every sentence with 'So'. I want to scream, completely irrational I know. It's not doing me any harm but I find it very irritating.

Also, people who put an upward inflection at the end of every sentence. If you're Australian or New Zealander, fine, but otherwise, it sounds as if you're asking me rather than telling me.

My two teenagers putting 'like' in every sentence.

Otherwise I'm quite chilled Grin

Ooh, the Love, laugh live decals wind me right up and wooden Bath signs for the bathroom.

People who have zero control of their leaping dog on a lead. How come I can manage to walk 2 medium dogs nicely on a lead who don’t react yet someone with a random poo cross hasn’t managed to train theirs? Doesn’t affect me but oh my, it winds me up!

People who breathe loudly,

Having the fabric fire lable tags hanging out from under my pouffe, i can't pin them up as it'll ruin the leather. I can't cut them off as i wont be able to donate them to the charity furniture shop when i replace them. So I'm stuck having them annoy me everytime i catch a glimpse of them.

People who refer to their extended family as 'the family' like they're the bloody mafia or something. `ooh your neighbour better not play R&B at 3am again or the family will sort them out!' yes, I'm sure great aunty Mabel and your cousin Sarah will be straight round there giving it what for!

People who moan about something needing to be done 'in a proper manner' when what they actually mean is 'that isn't how I would do it and I want it done my way even though it makes no difference whatsoever'.

I hate the phrase "we've had our ups and downs". It's partly because it's always used on here to refer to an absolute car crash of a relationship, but even apart from that, I just irrationally hate it as a phrase. I know MN is supposed to hate "ducks in a row" but I actually don't mind that one.

Oooh petrol stations! People who don't pick a pump and queue behind it, but wait way back so they can go to whatever pump comes free first and cause a tailback that blocks the road in both directions.

People that go in public toilets and go in the stall next to the only one that's occupied.

I think you'd have to classify irrational as 99% of the population wouldn't find it annoying but you do.

Nosy people or people who have a fear of missing out on anything, even if it isn't relevant to them at all.

People who post a status on Facebook with a generic question like "What's you're favourite film?" and say "Mines in the comments."

DH when he asks what I want to watch, I give him some ideas and then he spends 20 minutes going through Netflix/Prime/NowTV to see what there is despite having done the same last night.

Similar to to "don't drive" one, it really grinds my gears when people talk about future plans to go to uni or whatever and refer to it it as "my Masters" or whatever. It's just "a Masters"; it's not yours until you've completed it. Not as bad when it's people who have actually started it, but when it's people who probably won't ever even make an attempt at it I find it a bit presumptuous / premature.

Not irrational but winds me up -

Whistling. Colleague whistles to every single song on the radio. Makes me want to hand in my notice.

Same colleague - 'I'll be in at x o'clock to let the nightshift away'. No you won't, you'll be in at that time because that's what time you start work!! Winds me right up. Never says it about any other shifts. Just the nightshift.

I have a fairly open plan downstairs. My kitchen is off the lounge diner. No doors and a double width doorway. If someone stands in there, in my way, I get enraged.

The cutlery holder for the dishwasher. It just irritates me so much trying to push the cutlery through the little holes, then it gets caught or knocked on something and the whole lot goes over.

Literally. Like, I literally died when X said Y. I was like literally about to..... I actually replied to someone who said they were literally dying in response to a joke. Apparently, replying "Yet here you are, still breathing," wasn't the right thing to say.
