What to eat during hotel stay

Not aibu just posting for traffic.

Our kitchen had a leak and the entire kitchen needs to be ripped out and replaced. Landlord has put us in a hotel for 4 days so the workmen can replace the kitchen including all units and flooring.

The only problem we have is that the hotels restaurant is closed due to covid, they aren't even operating room service. No cooking facilities whatsoever. My daughter has food allergies: all dairy, potato, tomato, kiwi, peanuts, MSG, oranges, shellfish, peaches, aubergine, peppers and cocoa. I have no idea what to feed her with absolutely no cooking facilities. Takeaways aren't an option due to the long list of ingredients and she can't have and the MSG.

Any ideas what to do for food while we are stuck in a hotel for a few days? No family nearby so no way to have meals with them. We won't have a fridge or any cooking facilities. Staying at home isn't an option either, we have to be out of the property whilst the work takes place.

Can you take a microwave and buy an electric hotplate/hob? We survived 4 months of no kitchen using mainly those, plus slow cooker and George Foreman grill.

Oh bluddy hell. Sorry I honestly haven't got a clue. Contact salvation army to see if they have facilities you could borrow a few days? live on cold food picked up daily? When I was without a fridge in a hotel I did put stuff in a zip up bag and hang it out the window but it's a bit rubbish. PM me where you are and if you are anywhere near me you are welcome to use my kitchen. Covid or not that's a horrid situation to find yourself in x

Yes your landlord really needed to get you an airbnb or apartment/hotel with cooking facilities. You cant live like this for 4 days.

I wonder could you give an approximation of where you are and perhaps some other lovely mumsneters could at least drop a hot meal to the hotel for you. Or am I being too optimistic here?

We did 4 nights in a hotel recently under similar circumstances and we got takeaway and that was hard enough!

I’d think under those circumstances you’d have to take a microwave/toaster/small george foreman grill or similar. Does the room have a small fridge?

Croissants or instant porridge for breakfast, sandwiches, cup a soup or pot noodle for lunch, cooked chicken from supermarket for tea with baguette.
Could you get sausages or something from a chip shop even if she can’t eat chips? Or one of the pubs by us is doing takeaway hot pork sandwiches - something like that?
Any friends of neighbours who could cook you a meal - you could even buy a ready meal and give it them - and drop it off at the hotel once it’s done?

She eats lots of things, I've mostly managed to adapt staple recipes to replace or remove certain ingredients. It's the lack of fridge I think that will be the most difficult otherwise I could pre cook meals and put them in the fridge but again I can't heat it up. So far all I can think of is small cartons of soya milk and a box of Cereal but she can't live on that for 4 days!

Popping out to get sandwiches could be a good idea but that would still leave dinner.

I would take a mini fridge or microwave but I don't drive so no way of carrying them there! We will be getting the train and walking there.

I can't go to an air B&B because the landlord has booked and paid for the hotel.

Gas camping stove? Not sure what the hotel will think of that! We used one for almost a month when our kitchen was redone, with a microwave.

Oh you need to feed your child a hot meal. That's really unacceptable from the landlord. Such a crappy position to be in. Hopefully someone near you can cook a meal and drop it over. Other than that I don't know how you will have a hot meal.

Tell your LL: he perhaps hasn't realised the hotel can't feed you and he surely wil NOT know why this is a special problem for your DD.
He will be claiming the expense of decanting you on his LL insurance so it's no skin off his nose to find somewhere nmore suitable, an aparthotel with mini kitchen or something.

The hotel will likely not allow any kind of cooking facilities in the room because they will not be covered by insurance. How old is the child? Could you sell it as an adventure? sandwiches for 4 days isn't ideal but it's not the end of the world either. My offer stands but maybe the landlord has another property with facilities you could use?

A friend of mine went to boarding school and they used to cook super noodles in the kettle! Another option perhaps! You just have to hold down the button so it keeps boiling...

Exactly. I dont know anyone that would take their children somewhere without access to proper food/ properly stored food. Landlord is not doing enough.

When I've had to stay in hotels with no cooking facilities etc, I got by with adding cooked meat to Pot Noodles. Made a pretty good meal (and I'm not normally a fan of PNs).

Four days of sandwiches or cold food won't hurt if you are in the heated hotel.

Think of all those homeless people without ANY food to eat at all, while sleeping rough.

Pot Noodles contain MSG so won't be any gpod for OP's daughter (imagine the OP sneakily eating them).

Tell the landlord you need cooking facilities and some kind of small fridge.
Check with the hotel if it is an aparthotel type place or has a fridge you can use.

It is only a few days hopefully, not ideal but is there a shop nearby?

Remember that cold food is just as nutritious as hot food - you don’t need to have a hot meal every day, and it is just for four days.
Cereal for breakfast, sandwiches and cup a soup for lunch, baguette with cold meats for tea, fruit, cake, crackers etc. for snacks.
