AIBU?

Wibu to get a takeaway?

I'm pretty low on money at the moment and as such I'm trying to keep all spending to an absolute minimum. I've written out a budget and am trying my very best to stick to it.

But. I've made a mistake! Last time I did a big food shop I pre prepped and batch cooked everything so I have about 3 weeks worth of meals in the freezer ready to go. Even prepped all my veggies so they would last longer in the freezer. Unfortunately though I forgot to leave anything out for dinner tonight so I have nothing out except 2 pieces of bread, some cuppa soups and some cheap instant noodles 😭

Wibu to cut into my food budget and get a takeaway for tonight? I can stretch it to 2 meals to make it better value for money 😁

Go for it! Enjoy!

FippertyGibbett · 16/01/2021 17:20

You can either defrost something or go and buy something cheaper from the shop. Be strong !

catlovingdoctor · 16/01/2021 17:21

Absolutely YANBU! You need to eat food you enjoy- life is all about small pleasures right now. Expanding it to cover two meals will absolutely lessen the initial cost.

AnyTimeSoon · 16/01/2021 17:21

Well done for getting 3 weeks of food batch cooked and prepped! I would say you well deserve a takeout. Enjoy 😊

AngelonTopoftheTree · 16/01/2021 17:22

Treat yourself! You sound super organised!!!

katy1213 · 16/01/2021 17:22

Anything you can cook from frozen?

Tier10 · 16/01/2021 17:25

How about just get some chips and buy some eggs? It seems a shame to spend a lot on a takeaway after all your hard work and budgeting.

thesebootsaremadeforwalkin · 16/01/2021 17:26

Unfortunately everything is pre portioned into plastic tubs so I can't cook anything from frozen (eg, in the oven) and I don't have a microwave or anything to do a quick defrost. I could kick myself!

I could go to the shop..but it's cold and dark and I really don't want to..😂

Order a cheapish takeaway and enjoy it.

DimidDavilby · 16/01/2021 17:30

Run it under the tap.

shinynewapple2021 · 16/01/2021 17:33

You wouldn't be unreasonable, no.

But it depends on how much you need to save money, and whether you'll be cross with yourself afterwards .

Only you know that.

lockeddownandcrazy · 16/01/2021 17:44

Go for it!

TillyTopper · 16/01/2021 17:45

It really depends on much badly you need to save money. If you can afford it though definitely for for it!

HotCupOfNo · 16/01/2021 17:45

Kebab is the cheapest takeaway round here so I get one of those if we're skint

pepsicolagirl · 16/01/2021 17:47

Sounds like you have made your decision - go for it!

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 16/01/2021 17:47

@DimidDavilby

Run it under the tap.

That'll make the chips soggy!!
PurpleDaisies · 16/01/2021 17:48

I would put the tub in hot water until you can tip the contents into a saucepan.

In your situation, I’d want to save the money for a takeaway I’d enjoy and not be kicking myself for not defrosting something. If money really is that tight, there must be a way to get something ready from the freezer if you really wanted to.

Up to you though.

If you get a single portion of curry you can easily make it stretch to two meals (like you say) especially if you cook up your own rice. We're v. skint at the moment but do this very occasionally. Honestly you've done so well with your prepping and batch cooking I'd get one, stretch it out for 2 days and enjoy it.
thesebootsaremadeforwalkin · 16/01/2021 17:49

I do need to save money but I'm also only buying for me from the local place so I can keep the cost low, if I split it into two it's not too bad per portion. Plus I get to keep the tub and they're really good for future meal prep 😁

I actually ran out before as I managed to make so many meals. The freezer is completely full so I really need to start eating it from tomorrow!

Do you have any frozen veg you could add to the noodles to bulk it out a bit or any other fresh veg, then use the bread and make toast?

Obvioulsy, get a take-away if you want, but I'd personally use that money and save up for a cheap microwave! MUCH cheaper to defrost and heat your frozen meals that way, than using an oven each time!

stillhappytohelp · 16/01/2021 17:51

I get a chippy if I want a takeaway but have no money - wouldn’t stretch to fish but a battered sausage or a fish cake is about £1.50 round here. Another £1.20 or so for some chips - less than £3 so I don’t feel guilty about it! Smile

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 16/01/2021 17:51

Depends how much you NEED to stuck to the budget. If it's the difference between paying a Bill and not, I wouldn't. If it's the difference between saving £100 or £80 then meh!

Only you know the financial consequences & how you'll feel about it afterwards.

@DimidDavilby

Run it under the tap.

Definitely a bonfire pissing comment.
Have a takeaway, you sound supremely organised under normal circumstances and you definitely need a treat.
WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 16/01/2021 17:54

Would it help if I said I'm diabetic (so low carb to control it without medication) snd a pot noodle & bread sound like heaven!!

PurpleDaisies · 16/01/2021 17:54
