I didn't know that a pony is just a small horse until a year ago or so.

I thought ponies were different animals, a bit like a donkey is different, but similar to the horse.

I always believed that geese flew away in the autumn to seek warmer climates. Turns out they arrive in autumn to escape colder climates.

I didn't know until this week that the Statue of Liberty was made of copper and was therefore originally copper coloured and it turned to its greeny colour over time.

Anything to do with cars. Can't change tyres, check oil or even pop the bonnet!

As a side, I recently discovered that the pressure cooker makes the best rice with the least effort.

I only recently discovered the Netherlands and Holland were the same place...it still confuses me

Well you right before, they’re not the same. Holland is a part of the Netherlands, and it’s sort of come into popular usage to refer to the whole country, but Holland is actually a region. A bit like saying East Anglia is the same as England. It’s part of England but not the whole of England.

Btw full disclosure......I only found this out after visiting there. And I just thought to double check I was right (probably should have checked before I posted 😂) and I discovered that not only is it not the whole country some people from other regions of the Netherlands find it offensive if Holland is used to describe the country 😮. Bit like when people outside of London hate so many things being London centric I guess.

Can’t? My 10 year old DD can do those things. She can also identify all of the warning lights on the dash, knows most of the rules of the road and different speed limits and the basics of how the engine, clutch and brakes work.

There’s absolutely no reason anyone old enough to drive can’t do the things you’ve listed.

My one is, I genuinely always thought the song was Knights in white satin. It never occurred to me that satin would be really crap armour. Nights makes so much more sense. 🙄

I didn't realise Timbuktu was a real place, or that faggots were a real food until I was in my teens.
I thought narwhals were mythical creatures until I was in my 20s.

I can't do any of those car things a PP posted either.
