AIBU?

Be furious with sister breaking isolation

Peanutbutterjelly10 · 04/12/2020 21:10

Sister was contacted by her child's nursery and told to self isolate due to being them being in contact with someone positive. Been told to isolate 10 days. Her husband has already been out to buy something at the shops. Today she posted a pic of her child going out for a walk.
It's so selfish! Yes they don't have symptoms but they ask you to stay at home for 10 days because of the incubation period. I just think they are being so selfish.
Aibu to be angry?

The husband doesn’t have to isolate, only the child

All of them have been told to stay at home. Yes they knew they have to stay at home.

My 3 year old had to isolate (as did my older child recently) and it was hard not being able to leave the house (couldn't leave DC home alone!) but the 'rules' state only the person who has had contact needs to isolate. The rest of the household go about their business as normal.

I assume the child is the close contact and not the parents?

OK well if that's the case they are still bringing my niece out of the house

Only the child has to isolate so no problem with her husband going out.

The child should be staying in but, if I had a child that was supposed to be isolating, I would take them out for a walk at a time when there was no one about. Against the rules but no danger to anyone at all. Why are people getting so worked up. Covid doesn't care if what you are doing is legal or not. You can't pass it on if you don't get close.

Yes the child but also my sister as she spoke to the person who tested positive

Why do all of them have to isolate if only child been in contact , unless they have symptoms
If my dc get sent home from school due to a positive case me , dh and other dc don't have to
Isolate unless one of us has symptoms or positive test

Why do they all have to isolate, only the person who has had contact with the positive person has to isolate. Not sure how the nursery would know that the parents have been in close contact with a covid positive person.

Ok just read your update If your sister was also in contact needs to isolate and i agree its not reasonable to go out if you have been told to isolate

Report
Peanutbutterjelly10 · 04/12/2020 21:19

My sister and niece were in close contact with the positive person. Both have been outside the house

I don’t think I can get wound up about a nursery child going out for a walk if they aren’t coming into contact with anyone, rightly or wrongly.

And if you are going to be furious, then at least make sure you are right about what you are furious at.

Yes unreasonable but unless you want to report them nothing you can do.

Is it a local authority nursery? If not then unless the nursery were clearly communicating on behalf of the local authority/nhs then they don’t have the authority to tell someone to isolate. And unless the nursery procedures are very poor and they allow parents inside freely then only the child would be affected.

What sort of close contact did your sister have with the person? Speaking to them for less than 15 mins is not classed as close contact.

Report
Comefromaway · 04/12/2020 21:23

For example someone at work tested positive. We contacted the person he had been working with in close contact to advise them to isolate but we had no authority to tell them to do so unless test & trace contacted them.

I don't get that. Because surely say you had to scan into work for test and trace and someone was positive then they'd contact you. But yet its only restaurants etc that strike you with covid apparently 🤔 Stop the world I want to get off

But she only spoke to the member of staff. That didn’t mean she needs to isolate.

A minute ago it was just your nice who had close contact Confused

Report
JauntyMcGinty · 04/12/2020 21:30

This is confusing. Has your sister been told to self isolate? Has she left the house?

Report
Comefromaway · 04/12/2020 21:31

No, what happens is test & trace contact the person who has tested positive & that person then gives details of who they were in contact with. Test & trace then might contact the workplace to get contact details if the positive person doesn’t have them.

I think you need to know what the rules are first before you start moaning that people are breaking them 🙄

@Peanutbutterjelly10

All of them have been told to stay at home. Yes they knew they have to stay at home.

Told by whom?

You only have to isolate if contacted by track and trace by phone.
