AIBU?

To think that Charles and Camila are actually an example of genuine love

Yes of course I feel sorry for Diana. Yes I think being a royal has a huge impact. But they let young and are now still together and seemingly happy in their 70’s, despite a lot of shunning, negative press, etc.

I thought they didn't actually live together and lead separate lives but obviously can't divorce?

Umm ok.

Much as I dont have strong feelings on the royal family, I find it sad that two people had to wait that long to find happiness due to what was essentially family politics.

I think so too

Others won’t though

I know bugger all about the Royals but they do look happy enough.

I'm really happy for them. They have great chemistry, and I'm pleased that after such a huge damaging mess of a life he got to marry the love of his life.

Yes what they did to Diana was awful - but very typical of royalty and aristocracy, certainly at the time, to have affairs, and I don't think she would have been easy to be married to either. She also had her fair share of men on the side (who can blame her). Let's face it, if the royal family were poor with their antics they'd have been recurring guests on Jeremy Kyle Grin

Have you been watching The Crown? Grin

They probably are. I do think it’s a shame that for a variety of (on the face of it) strange reasons, they couldn’t be together when they were younger. But to me it just magnifies the ridiculousness of royal standards and protocols, especially if you add up all the related collateral damage that is linked to the whole mess.

Who knows, as with any relationship probably has its ups and downs

Is living together a requirement of a happy marriage?

The royals live very different lives to the rest of us

I think they have always loved each other (possibly stronger on Charles' side) but were separated by family. This was obviously bad for Diana who was also manipulated by both her family and the Royal family.

Andrew Parker Bowles was happy for Camilla to sleep with Charles, they had supportive friends who let them meet up at their houses for weekends. It wasn't like they were forced apart for decades. I feel sympathy for Andrew Parker Bowles who moved on and remarried then his wife passed away.

I just think they were sneaky

Put me off them

As trite as that sounds 😁

@DisgruntledPelican I have Grin
But I’ve always thought this, to me they seem so much more suited than him and Diana ever did. I also always agree when I watch Gavin and Stacey and Pamela has a “thing” about them Smile

Notrightbutok if the rumours are correct then APB has had a thing going with Princess Anne for years. I don't feel too sorry for him.

Pretty sure I read an interview a few years ago where it was explained that she likes to have her family and grandchildren around the place a lot and he isn't so fussed, like his books and his gardening and of course has his engagements ect to attend to and so they live apart some of the time and together at each others houses some of the time.

Nothing wrong with that. Horses for courses ext

@Dongdingdong oh nice try... my parents are very happily married for about 50 years and I’ve been with dh for 15.
Luckily We could all just get married to who we wanted - there were no protocols to follow etc.

@Dongdingdong i think your comment is in very poor taste to bring OP parents relationship into it on the basis you dont agree with her comment

I think that they are in love but she likes to live in her house where she sees her family and he prefers the solitude of Highgrove.
I understand that they don't spend much time together.

I think it's important to remember that he wasn't told he couldn't marry Camilla, she didn't want to be the Princess of Wales - which was convenient for the Royal Family anyway as they had a rather gross fascination with him marrying a virgin

More of an example of genuine love of themselves - they were incredibly selfish and hurtful. I'm sure there is a bittersweetness about it if they think of the trail of destruction they caused.

This to me sounds like the perfect marriage. I couldn't ever bear to be in anyone's pockets and if I had the wealth to have 2 houses I would

I think they're a very happy couple. Far from awkwardly separate lives, it must be lovely to have the luxury of properties to live between if you want some space! It was utterly wrong to force them apart and bring in Diana - who whatever her faults was incredibly naive, utterly ill suited to Charles and barely knew him. Camilla was just right.

I saw an article in Tatler a few years ago about how they're very much still in love. Apparently they went in one of those novelty photo booths at a party and the hostess was most amused afterwards, when flicking through to find a few photos of them having a cheeky snog! Good for them!!

Also wasn't APB a rather prolific shagger back in the day, too?
