AIBU?

Settle a disagreement: whose food was this?

BunnyMacDougal · 21/11/2020 21:29

Tonight we ordered a takeaway online which DH collected.

His meal came with a side of kimchi. Mine didn’t but I wanted kimchi so added it on as an extra.

DH collected the food and, when we unpacked the bag, there was only one kimchi. It was a fairly small single-serving tub.

Lighthearted and we came to a very reasonable agreement where we shared it but DH is of the opinion that as kimchi came with his meal, the tub we received was for him and therefore he did me a favour by sharing it.

I feel that he should have checked the bag and therefore any error is on him, and I’m the best wife in the world because I shared my kimchi with him.

YABU = kimchi was rightfully DH’s.
YANBU = kimchi was rightfully mine.

Does it really matter?
But the kimchi was his, since it came with his meal.

You ate his kimchi, it was his included in his meal deal. Just say thank you to him

He should have checked and its quite self centered he'd automatically think it was his. After he'd behaved like that I wouldn't be sharing with him!

Hahaha! Love this.
Definitely his. They obviously didn't read that you added one as a side.

Given there should have been two kimchi's in the bag it's impossible to say whose was missed.

I'd say it was more likely a meal side was missed than an individual item on the order, but impossible to tell for sure.

You are both being unreasonable (and both clearly unhinged) as kimchi is the devil's own

Report
WiddlinDiddlin · 21/11/2020 21:33

Someone misread the order and put in 1 portion of kimchi instead of two.

There is no way of knowing whose kimchi this was if you actually paid for the side you didn't get.

So sharing was fair, it wasn't his kimchi.

IF however you didn't pay for the extra kimchi, then it was his. Tell him that if you like.... or not! :D

Report
steff13 · 21/11/2020 21:34

I think it's his. But did you pay for an extra side of kimchi?

Report
FudgeBrownie2019 · 21/11/2020 21:35

It was nobody's kimchi and everyones kimchi all at once.

Report
OoohTheStatsDontLie · 21/11/2020 21:38

Did they charge for the kimchi, if they did then it was yours as you got the paid one and if they didnt then it was his as it was the free one

Report
ilovepixie · 21/11/2020 21:38

What is kimchi????

Report
BunnyMacDougal · 21/11/2020 21:38

The extra kimchi was paid for.

We’re quite rural and he had to drive twenty mins each way to get the food so no point going back to pick up the forgotten one.

I know its no big deal but I'm genuinely baffled as to how you can deduce this from the op?

Kimchi fermented cabbage seasoned with chilli and And garlic

Would have halved it tbh

Report
Sheepareawesome · 21/11/2020 21:42

If it was paid for as an extra it was yours.

buckeejit · 21/11/2020 21:42

Surely you call the take away & interrogate them as to who the real owner of the kimchi is.

Otherwise it's Schrodinger's kimchi.

switswooo · 21/11/2020 21:42

I don’t think it was either of yours kimchi, but he is the one who made the 40 min round trip, so he gets the kimchi.

I hate checking takeaway food, it’s all stapled up and closed and opening to check it makes it cold. Do you ever make the 20 min trip to the takeaway?

check the receipt!

If they charged you for a side order of Kimchi - yours
If they didn't charge you for a side order of Kimchi - His

Report
SavoyCabbage · 21/11/2020 21:50

I would have let him have all of it.

You only ordered it as an extra item whereas it was a part of his meal.

If he'd ordered a battered sausage and chips and you'd ordered fish and chips and also an extra battered sausage and there was only one battered sausage when it arrived would you have had the battered sausage and the fish and chips and left him with just chips?

Report
TonMoulin · 21/11/2020 21:50

No way to know of the Kimchi that was missing was the extra one or the one included in the meal.

I think that either of you assuming that the kimchi was ‘for them’ is wrong. So there is no ‘I’ve done you a favour to share it with you’.

Your DH should have checked the order though.

Just spotted the update - so it was yours
But I'm sure you'd have shared it Grin

I did an online Kimchi class this morning with the excellent charity Made in Hackney.

As PP have said, if they billed you for the kimchi then it’s yours which you kindly shared.
