To be so upset about a mug

I am an IDIOT. Just dropped my beautiful personalised EB mug dd bought for me (Granny actually did the purchasing) for her first Xmas. I could cry!! I’m going to buy another exactly the same but bloody hell.

I’m not the only one emotionally attached to mugs am I?!

No. I still miss my beautiful mug that dh broke last year. It made me happy every morning and I can’t replace it as it’s not available anywhere anymore.

I have one I never use in case it gets broken. It isn’t even expensive or particularly nice. I bought it with my Nan who died.

No! DH broke my favourite mug recently. It wasn't even a sentimental or pretty one. It was just a nice big cosy mug that was just right for morning coffee.

How badly is it broken? I was looking at Kintsugi lately which is a way of fixing ceramics with gold, which looks pretty cool. If I ever broke anything expensive or really sentimental I'd do that.

I'm very attached to mugs too. DD is in her 30s now and I still have a few mugs from her baby/childhood days.
The mug i'd be upset to break is one I bought at a garden centre. Me and my mum, who died 20 years ago, bought matching ones. The original pattern has faded over the years so now it's just white. I still have my first cup of tea in it every morning. I totally understand OP.

I had a mug with a superlambanana on from when liverpool was the capital of culture in 2008. Dh dropped it a couple of weeks ago. There is zero chance of ever finding another one. I miss it very much!

No don't worry you're not the only one, I'd also cry over an EB mug.

How bad is the break? If it's just the handle that's broken off you could repurpose as a little plant holder or pen pot..

Or you could also use it in a mosaic, I think you can actually send it off to people who create coasters etc with them, I'm sure I've seen this mentioned on the EB chat groups on Facebook.

I love mugs! And get very attached to them.

I have one that was bought (by me) on the tiny, tiny island I come from and which I could not replace. (Can't afford to return there for a mug!)

I get ridiculously nervous and overprotective every time I see that DH or one of the offspring is using my mug and they just don't get it...

I knew it would be EB.
My best friend bought me one a couple of years ago (lives in Stoke on trent) and it means the world to me.
Just the right size and shape.
I would be distraught if it got smashed (even though I have gone as far as to buy an identical one that I keep stashed in my knicker drawer).
I would try and repair yours and use it as a tiny plant pot holder.

I am emotionally attached to my butter dish. I got it for my 21st birthday from my Godfather. I was at the time, but I love it now and it is in daily use. Its hand painted , 30 years old and total ireplaceable.

Not a mug but a salad bowl that I bought on holiday years ago. We went on a tour and they stopped at this pottery which we would never have found on our own. It looked hand made and I had it for over 34 years so was very vexed when it broke.

No, unfortunately not. Thanks for looking though. It was a bone china mug with a yellow superlambanana in front of the liverpool skyline. I think it was from Home Bargains. It was very faded as I had used it so much but I loved it.

I cried when I broke my butter dish, and DH glued it back together, and we still use it.

I broke a mug that meant a lot it was my granny’s favourite and I asked for it when she died. My family think I’m mad they got all the money (it wasn’t much) and I got the mug, kitchen table, bread bin and wee thing for sitting your tea bag on when you take it out the mug. All the rest are going strong!

When my SIL died, my brother gave me her mug as I'd always adored it and she made tea for me using that mug every time I visited. I took it to my wedding and had tea with our meal, using that mug and toasted her memory. I took it camping with me, when visiting friends. I adored it. It got broken and I was devastated. They didn't make them any more and I started a thread on here. The loveliest MNer had one lurking unloved in a cupboard and sent it to me. I use it every day and treasure it.

Obviously not for the personalised (:( ) but try ebay (continuously). My mum had a royal worcester mug that she loved (think certain type of cat) - she used it every day and put it in the dishwasher. After several decades it had faded to nothing but the shape was still perfect. Last year she dropped it - my dad had just died, my aunt was ill, the house needed a lot doing, she had medical issues - just everything so dropping the mug was the final straw.

So i searched ebay daily. I have only ever seen 2 come up for sale and was able to purchase the 2nd one. I think it was meant to be and many of us have "the" mug.

My favourite work mug broke a couple of months ago. I was gutted. It was a glass pint mug, it was my trademark. My colleagues were very sympathetic!

All of my mugs are special! I'd be devastated too! I am especially fond of my heat change Nicolas Cage one that says "you're my national treasure" and has his face surrounded by flowers. DP bought it for me. I have a stone kitchen floor and I recently had a nightmare that I smashed our matching initial mugs on it!

I have one I bought for my mum for Mother's Day when I was probably 10 or 11. It isn't used, it sits on the shelf. She died when I was 14 and I would be gutted if it got damaged. Also some really unique ones that were gifts from my grandparents. There are lots other things I'll happily part with but not those!

I used the same mug for years, Was perfect for everything. My ex left me and took the cup without thinking. You better believe I sent him a message asking for it back. He posted it to me lol. Still have it five years on.
