AIBU?

To think it's ridiculous putting your Xmas tree up this early?

I understand we've had a shit year this year, but I wouldn't dream of putting my Christmas tree up in October. I have a friend who has taken down the Halloween decorations and has now put the tree up. It hasn't even been Halloween yet? Hmm

What is getting me through this time at the moment is knowing that in just over a month it will actually be time to put the tree up and I'm really looking towards to getting new decorations and doing so.

AIBU here?

Jesus YANBU.
Xmas tree in October.
This year needs to end now and maybe the tree signifies that for your friend.

If it doesn’t affect you personally why do you care .Do what makes you happy and let other do the same .

YABU to think of putting Christmas decorations up in a month. I won’t put mine up till 19 Dec.

There are no rules anyway! Do what you want, let your friend do whatever she wants, it doesn’t matter

If I put my tree up now I'd be sick of the sight of it come December. I usually put mine up just after the 1st.

Why on earth would you care? It doesn't affect you. If she wants a tree up, why does that matter to you?

I find it really weird too. Of course people can do whatever they like in their own homes, but I’ll never understand it. When it’s not the season of Christmas is meaningless - there’s no feeling behind it. And surely by December they’ll all be bored of the tired, dusty decorations that have been hanging about for 2 months?

Couldn't agree more, even though my dd has put hers up. Luckly I don't go in her room and i have told her to keep her door shut.

Mine will not go up until a week before christmas.

Let her get on with it if it makes her happy.

I understand that I shouldn't care but I just think it's stupid and can't get the logic behind it. It's October ffs

Of course you're being unreasonable. It's nothing to do with you.

I love Christmas, decorations go up as soon as it’s December.

Before Halloween is crazily early.

We have to rearrange the furniture to put a tree up. No way doing that yet.

Taking down Halloween decorations already seems bonkers. Having Halloween decorations or autumn decorations seems a little bit of fun we all need.

I'm considering starting the Christmas decorations on 1 November this year.

I'm not out the house all the time like normal; it'll be nice to have something light, bright and colourful to look at indoors as it gets darker outside.

Don't you have to dust them if they are up too long?

Usually I would agree with you but it's been such a crap year with no end in sight. I think people just need a little cheer on their lives and for some putting up the Christmas tree is giving them that.

Did she ask you to put it up for her?
Did she say you had to put yours up?
Is it anything to do with you?
YABU it has no bearing on your life.

I agree that if it makes her happy, leave her to it. It’s not affecting your life. Yes it is a bit ridiculous but who cares? I’ll be putting mine up early this year, usually do it around 18th/19th dec but going to do it on the 1st this year.

Haha. She's got overexcited. It happens. Tis a bit early but hey a little premature ornamentation never hurt anyone. Grin🎄

It has been a shit year, and everything feels better with twinkly lights.

If it brings someone joy, and isn't harming anyone, why does the happiness need to be regulated, just because you wouldn't do it.

It’s definitely way too early. I can’t believe she took Halloween things down before Halloween to do it either! Madness.

I remember the first time I saw Xmas decorations in someone’s house in November and I was really surprised. Friend was American and it was a couple of days after thanksgiving and they always put their tree up then.

I love Xmas and decorations and am looking forward to it all this year as we will be in a new house (have already bought some totally unnecessary new decorations and am planning a third tree!) but it won’t be until December.

Hate Christmas starting so early!
Homebargains have a "seasonal" isle- autumn/ Halloween/ bonfire right now- but no- it's full of Christmas stuff.

It's been such a shite year that I can understand trying to feel some cosy Christmas joy. Halloween is my personal Christmas so I'm still surrounded by pumpkins and bats, but I feel her.

Any other year I would judge HARD but this year? Fuck it. Let people have some joy.

In our house the tree and decs go up the Saturday before Christmas (unless that's Christmas Eve).

I hate Christmas starting as soon as the schools go back.
