AIBU?

AIBU to think that most people who have a dishwasher run it once a day?

We bought a new dishwasher recently. It was heavily promoted as coming with six months' supply of Fairy dishwasher tablets. The tablets arrived yesterday and there are 120 of them. That's not six months' supply in this household, as we run the dishwasher every day. AIBU to think that wouldn't be half a year's worth in most other households?

I rang the manufacturer to query it and was told that it was six months' worth based on "data and surveys". Hmmmm. I'm not going to take this to the highest court in the land, obviously, but it does seem a bit crap. AIBU?

At least once a day, mostly twice as Hubby at home.

I wish! I run mine at least twice a day!

I don’t know. We only have a half-size one (space issues) and I run it almost daily. I suppose it depends how much you cook from scratch. A few of my pans need to be hand-washed, too. I think probably a few more than 120 would be accurate for most people.

Yep, once a day. Maybe more

You're right most will run it at least 5 times a week but those 'one year dupply' deals are always based on a really low usage estimate so I'd have taken it with a pinch of salt.

Every other day on the week, every day at weekends.

Every other day here.

It used to be once a day.

Working from home means it's now at least twice a day!
Yes, manufacturer is being cheeky.

That’s a rip off OP. Make sure you publicize this. Consumer should use their power to tell businesses that misleading advertisement is not acceptable

@HandfulofDust This is my first encounter with one of those deals. I'll be a bit more sceptical and read the small print next time.

That’s annoying.

Have you had a dishwasher before? We find the cheapest tablets/powder absolutely fine, for when you need to buy some.

Once a day if only 3 or 4 of us here; twice if all 5 or special occasion of some sort.

@GreyishDays Yes - we were hurriedly replacing our old one, which had gone "pop!" We usually use Ecover tablets and were tragically excited to try something a bit whizzier.

Will probably be including all those mad people who say things like 'we have a dishwasher but only use it on high days and holidays' as well as amilies who probably cook from scratch more than average and hence need to use the dishwasher more than most.

I would feel a little short changed as ours goes on maybe 5/6 times a week on average, but at the moment it seems to be mostly filled with cat bowls Confused. But then again, we normally buy Lidl all in one tablets so even one a day, that's not even £20 worth of tablets, so it's never going to be a major factor in decision making.

I use mine about once a fortnight - those tablets would last me ages Grin

TeapotCollection · 01/10/2020 10:39

I’d say that’s about right based on averages, lots of people do use them every day but plenty don’t. Ours broke last year but we haven’t bothered replacing it because we only used it about once a month

This is absolutely the kind of thing that passes for excitement in my house these days.

I long to get out more again.

We have a slimline dishwasher and run it once a day. I put it on before I go to bed and unload in the morning.

If I had a full size would probably be every other day. 3 of us but hand wash pots and pans as they are not dishwasher safe.

There's 3 adults in the house and we only put it on every 3 days or so Confused are people actually filling their dishwashers every day or just putting it on even when it's not full?

Report
PinkFondantFancy · 01/10/2020 10:42

Depends how much you cook and if pots and pans are going in I guess. Mine's on twice a day every day, 3 times at weekends. There's 4 of us and a standard sized dishwasher
