To expect Tesco to deliver my order in bags?

Got a delivery today & had to unpack it & put in my own bags. Is this the new normal for Tesco? Asda charge 40p for a bagged delivery - is this an option with Tesco now?

I've googled but can't find any up to date news about it.

You have to request them. It’s on the last page before payment, you tick box if you want bags. 40p charge.

Tesco went bagless before CV, but then brought back the bags to make it quicker , safer and easier as they were doing so many deliveries.

As from last week, they are now doing tray liners, there is an option to add for 40p per delivery. (it does say bags or tray liners, but my delivery guy said it was liners).

I had the liners last week and it was great, very easy to pick up the whole tray in one go. Not so good if you have a bad back though if it is a heavy tray.

They were bagless pre-lockdown, switched to bags during the lockdown ordering surge to cut down delivery times, and went back to bagless this week. You can request and pay for bags on your order, though.

They stopped doing bagless during covid, now they've started charging again - thank goodness! I've amassed sokoto many bags

The tray liners are great - much better than 1800 carrier bags with one or two things per bag!

Tesco have been bagless for ages, well before CV, it was for environment reasons.

They have only very recently introduced the option of having things bagged for a small cost.

I got tray liners last week , they are fine if the stuff is only light like bread , pasta eggs but I got 10 500ml bottles of Ghostship and 1 kg of rice all on one tray , there was no way I was going to risk picking that lot up in a liner .
That said they make good if a bit big ) litter tray liners

I just carry the boxes into my kitchen and unload them one by one.

I still got tray liners last week with Tesco even though I’d clicked the button for bagless , definitely hadn’t been charged . I don’t mind bagless deliveries .

Bags and tray liners are so incredibly wasteful. Im delighted they have finally given us the option of neither once again.

They started putting everything in bags during lockdown but last week stopped and reverted back to paying 40p for bags BUT it’s one large bag that fits their containers with your shopping in not individual bags. My mums shopping turned up in one last week and they explained

Yes but as I found out last Sunday if you only get it delivered to your door then it's like trying to carry your shopping to the kitchen in a wobbly plastic parachute

I got an email from them last week saying they were going back to bagless (after the last few months of it being delivered automatically bagged due to covid) but if you want it bagged then there is an option to choose that on the last page for a charge of 40p and they will either bag it or put it in tray liners.

I didn't choose bags so I'm hoping that last week was the last time and from today onwards I can bag myself again.

We just got our delivery, I never click on the bags because they are such a waste of plastic for 2 mins convenience and I have found no alternative uses for the tray liners.

They brought the first tray and put in inside my door so I took it into the kitchen and unloaded, but when I came back they told me the rules are currently we aren't allowed to take the trays inside. So had to take the items in handfuls to the kitchen, its a bit of a faff but the kitchen is near the front door so still not worth the plastic waste. If the kitchen was a distance away I would probably just put on the hall floor and move after they had gone using the laundry basket or something.

Fabulous. I bet your delivery drivers just live hanging around while you do that.

I'd prefer the tray liners if they had handles, they're a bit if a PITA, but still better than nothing if you don't want to hold the delivery guys up.

I agree the bags & liners aren't very environmentally friendly, but 'needs must' sometimes & I can't think of a better system (that's physically possible for lots of people) I HATED the bag less deliveries pre Covid.

They switched to trayliners recently, and charging for trayliners even more recently. I think last week they weren't charging and this week it's 40p?

I don't mind the 40p charge. Tesco have been really good to me during lockdown, and it's less hassle for the drivers and me, if they can just plonk the trayliners outside my front door and head off.

As has been mentioned by @Ginkypig, they're a bit of a faff when it comes to transporting things from the front door to the kitchen though... Wobbly parachute is a great description!

Oh dear, I've obviously been on the stupid pills. There were tray liners the last two times I went for my Click and Collect and I lifted everything out individually and slung it in the car. It never occurred to me that I could just (attempt to) lift the liner containing everything
