WIBU to shower after swimming?

The showers are open. The pool is limited numbers and the showers are too. They are closing cubicles and only every other one is open.

I'm taking dc1 swimming tomorrow and I want us to shower and wash hair after, like we normally do, or did pre-covid. It's a naice gym and swimming pool place btw, and never that busy. No we wouldn't wash our hair if there was a big queue for showers, before anyone jumps up and down about that.

Anyway, my dad (doctor) says all his colleagues are choosing not to shower after their gym and swim, (in another location), due to covid. I read in Metro or somewhere that you actually should be showering.

I'm confused! Would you? Do you? I'm tempted to, even if it's just when I go with dc tbh, as then we can walk home instead of bundling out to the car covered in chlorine.

We were told that you can shower but not use soap or shampoo, just a quick rinse. I think the idea is to just dip in and out as quick as possible but it's unclear and seems to vary between leisure centres. Typically inconsistent

I shower after swimming, I don't really understand the closing cubicles thing either, what's it going to do, waft over the top? Seems quite unlikely.

I swim at our gym and it’s business as usual. I shower, wash hair and dry it too.

I've been swimming regularly since local pool opened at leisure centre and have showered every time, as have fellow swimmers

I would shower. I've been showering at the gym since it reopened, and DD (competitive swimmer) has been showering at the gym. I can't see why not.

Thanks mallory. No, we haven't been given that advice about no soap. That might be the compromise, but I don't actually think it would make an enormous difference in terms of how long we are in there tbh.

The changing rooms are big and the maximum number of people using them is 6 for lane swimming and one family in the learner pool. So, in the family change it will just be us and whoever is coming in after.

Oh x posted. Thanks. I also can't see why not! I've just been for a swim on my own and it is grim coming home covered in swimming pool water. How is that safer? Maybe it is. I don't know. Even my dad doesn't know! He just said since his colleagues don't, there must be a reason...helpful 😂🤦‍♀️.

I don't think any of the kids are showering at our pool (after lessons). The poolside showers are closed.

I they go with swimwear on and then after its changed quickly and shower at home.

I think they are trying to limit the time in changing rooms.

With the logic that soap is needed to break down the virus then surely you should all be soaped up from top to bottom! Then preferably UV dried and liberally doused in sanitiser!

The showers are shut at our swimming pool but they are open showers not cubicles. If they're open I'd use them.
What's your dad's reason for not using the showers?

We use our showers at our naice gym @StarchyStanley. They even kept the soap dispensers in there 🙄 but we see them being cleaned very regularly, so it doesn't concern me.

I wouldn't want to come home with chlorine in my hair.

Our pool are doing 40 min slots. You have to be out the building ten minutes after your slot ends so shower fast is the rule. It does seem like everyone is making it up as they go

But if you've been in a chlorinated pool then surely the chlorine has killed anything?! Unless you're all peeing in the shower? Kids have all peed in pool surely

I shower and hair wash and that takes less than 5 mins. I get dried v quickly and leave as soon as I can with wet hair. I wash all towels and costumes as soon as I get back. Been doing that since 1st week gyms reopened in July.

Our pool is similar to what woeisme describes. You can shower and use shampoo/shower gel - the only directive to be quick. I think the only reason for advising against shampoo would be time - they want you in and out of the shower/changing rooms asap.

(All the cubicles are open too. You get assigned a numbered cubicle when you go in, so they know which ones to clean.)

If not busy I’d shower and wash hair, if very busy a quick rinse.

I’d assume the no soap rule has made the rounds due to speed! As a pp said, we’re told to wash hands with soap!

We are also very quick in the shower, even washing hair etc. Quick hair wash, body wash and out. I am not planning any deep conditioning treatments or anything. Full leg shave 😂.

Can your dad explain why showering after swimming isn't good? Maybe that will help you understand if there's a risk or not?

I swim every day and just have a quick rinse off in the shower before changing. A swimming cap protects my hair from the worst of the chlorine and means I don't need to wash it every day
