YABU it's bibbed. If someone is being stupid you bib them.

YANBU, is bibbed even a word?!

Either version is an attempt to replicate the sound of the horn presumably - so either is correct depending on the noise your car horn makes.

It’s bipped actually.

Clevs · 10/09/2020 20:51

I've heard of 'bipped' but never 'bibbed'.

Clearly 'beeped' is onomatopaeic, so 'bibbed' is a different but equally legitimate verb.

Parped

You’re wrong on both counts because it’s Bipped.

Bobbed if it's a shirt blast, beeped if it's a long blast.

I have never heard of "bibbing the horn"! Where is this a thing please?

It’s bib the hooter round these parts

Report

Hooter pronounces ‘ooter’

Is it regional? DH is from Essex and says bibbed, I'm Welsh and say beeped.

Report
Theimpossiblegirl · 10/09/2020 20:56

Obviously I'm right.

Isn't 'beeped' a longer press than a 'bibbed'?

Report
mrsBtheparker · 10/09/2020 20:58

I've heard pipped and bipped, as well as beeped, but never bibbed.

Report
ChanceChanceChance · 10/09/2020 20:59

No issue with bibbed or bipped, beeped somehow takes too long to say.

Bibbing and beeping are different sounds.

A bib is a short, gentle noise that means something a bit like a polite "excuse me".

A beep is a longer, louder noise that means something like a yelled "oi, you, what the hell do you think you're doing?"
