AIBU?

‘Fuck the Covid rules.’ Really?

To all the posters (there have been many) saying they don’t plan to abide by the new rule of 6 - is your attitude specific to Covid, or do you generally don’t care about acting illegally?

For instance would you drink and drive ‘because you have a good reason’?

Or park illegally or drive without a seatbelt?

Would you drop litter on the streets?

I’m genuinely confused by the admission that so many posters see law-abidance as a “nice to have”, rather than some basic standard of life and morality in a society.

I think the attitude is specific to Covid.

I think, after months of being told to eat out to help out, to get back into the office, to drive to Barnard castle to test our eye sight and having our children in " bubbles" of at the very least 30 every day makes being scolded for taking too many tests and not following the rules hard to take.
Personally I'm happy to do anything that keeps my kids in school, a roof over my head and my grandmother alive but I can see why people are a bit cynical about the governments rules.

Poor comparisons. Wearing a seatbelt or being sober when driving are known to dramatically improve your chances (and others) of arriving safely at your destination. And there are no shades of grey. You either are drunk or you’re not. You’re either belted up or you’re not.

I’m not in the UK but it seems the new rule of 6 doesn’t apply if you’re working, at a funeral, etc. It’s absolutely ridiculous to think you are “safe” at work or in a church in groups of more than 6 but not in your own home. Either the virus is dangerous or it isn’t. That would be like saying “you have to wear a seat belt unless you’re in a red car because red cars don’t crash”. Or “you can’t drink and drive unless it’s a Monday”. It’s just as random. The whole thing is a test of control. It’s worked with you.

And I live in a state where the death rate is less than a third of the UK death rate. We never had half of the crazy rules you had. And a greater proportion of us are still alive.

Why do people keep posting Corona-related discussions outside the Coronavirus chat area? :(

I'm very covid conscientious, but the government have acted appallingly (hardly surprising) through lockdown and I can understand will slowly transition to a revolt. What is more ludicrous is that they quite literally encouraged people to go out and eat out ect, and then now are slamming young and often single people for apparently being "a highly covid spreading group" when they are the group that would go out most often to help the economy. Absolute hypocrisy.

It's specific to the corona related rules that make zero sense.

For example, a child is "bubbling" in school with 200 other children but when that child leaves school, if they walk home with 6 friends they are breaking the law, are liable for a fine and there could be marshalls enforcing distancing and scaring that children.

Please tell me in what world is this right and makes sense.

I have followed all rules during covid. But like most people I just cannot get my head around this new 6 rule. So as a family of 5 I can no longer meet my sister and nephew in a park (as that would be 7). But I could meet a different 5 people every day from 5 different households and go for dinner so therefore coming into close contact with 35 different people in a week. So personally I will he making my own decisions on risk levels for my family.

People shouldn't have been mixing in groups of more than 6 anyway, so I don't see that the PM announcement should make much difference to people.

it's shit, but it's the way it is.

people that were ignoring the rules before are still going to ignore the rules.

Since you dont know all the facts you're argument is invalid. Funeral are allowed in Covid Covid approved venues and numbers are limited.

There has only been ( bar 1 )very small cases in the work place. Schools open over 3 weeks , not even 1 year group sent home.

Im assuming you're in the U.S, are you going to share yoyr countries great strategy to eradicate COVID?

You also dont seem to know that the 4 countries making up the UK have different rules on work.

People are pissed off. Give them a moment, most decent people will abide by the laws like they have for the last 6 months.

My 8 year old's first communion is likely to be cancelled for the second time. She's been so excited preparing for it for the last year. I've just ordered a cake, bought another dress because she's outgrown the first one etc. I'm pissed off but that doesn't mean I won't stick to the rules.

I will follow the new rules, but I would love someone to tell me why I can meet up with my sister, her husband and kids at a wedding but I can't go to their home (or them to mine) because we are over 7.

I would also like to know why its Monday and whether it does have anything to do with the horse racing and how did we learn nothing from the last time.

Why is it ok, senior school kids can go on a crowded bus or train, mix with 30 other students for 5 days a week and yet not meet more than 6 of their friends in a park at a weekend.

The rules make no sense and sooner or later a story is going to appear where yet another politician or person involved with the decisions has broken the rules but its still all the publics fault that this is spreading like it is.

The laws you have listed are clear and defined these are not

@mustshowDH I hate to be the one to say it but your comment is ignorant, as someone who is the eldest of five children who lives separately it isn't about number monitoring its about being realistic and cautious with monitoring you own bubbles and contact with the general public. The government are now playing not only the blame game but using resources we have supposedly spent years repaying to now re enforce a lockdown that quite frankly isn't necessary and their fault entirely, by encouraging dining out ect of course cases were going to spike, if you had seen China Town during that period you would know it was intentional chaos. The cases will now obviously dip but the government pushed the dining to ensure a second lockdown to kill it off quickly rather than naturally.

The new rules can’t and won’t be policed or enforced, so pretty pointless anyway.

Report
Jd1313 · 10/09/2020 01:19

@finfintytint agree, it is a waste of police resource and furthermore yes 'freshers flu' will now be mistaken for covid and waste a significant amount of money on testing.

so are you saying you've been breaking the rules anyway and are now upset they will be enforced?

There are so many exceptions to the 'rule of 6' there is a way around them for most people that are so inclined.

And I agree, it SHOULD be about being realistic and cautious, but I'm not in Government so don't get to make that call.

@mustshowdh I am an autistic individual who has been visiting my family home for additional support of whom they have gone nowhere and been very protective. I haven't broken rules. I am implying that essentially the number is not realistic, it is quite literally a government conspiracy to shift blame to younger individuals yes I have a degree in virology and biomedical science.

It's a bonkers rule that's why. I can be in a classroom with 150 different kids every day yet I can't see my parents and sister at the same time. It makes no sense.

As a family of 4 we can see no other families with a child? Not going to happen.

The government messaging and behaviour has been crap. But to me that’s not the point. I am following sensible precautions that will protect me and my family and that’s that. We all have a brain and I think it’s more useful than confusing guidelines.
