To feel slightly traumatised by this...?

Last night just before bed I went to have a wee. Sat down, wee’d, pulled the toilet paper (must have slightly scrunched it up) went to wipe and a MASSIVE fucking house spider was wriggling between my fingers, in the toilet tissue Envy I screamed the loudest I’d ever screamed, jumped up and flung the tissue and spider across the room. DH then came running up after hearing me scream and got it out for me. It was so almost on my bite before I saw it and honestly my skin was crawling all night.

I was shaking, felt sick!! I should add, I have a massive fear of spiders and house/ field spiders whatever they’re called just send me over the edge.

It took me ages this morning to pluck up the courage to go into the bathroom and have a wee!! HOW I didn’t notice that massive fucker last night I’ll never know, but I was dopey and half asleep I’m guessing that’s why!!

I think I would actually die on the spot if that happened to me.

This needs a trigger warning. You’re bringing me out in actual hives.

My stomach flipped, when I read that, so I personally don’t think you’re over reacting. You will be told to ‘grow up, it’s only a spider, get counselling, etc’ by people who have no idea what it is like to have a phobia of spiders. I can cope with them outside, so long as they’re not near me, but if I come upon one in the house I get so anxious I can actually hear the blood pumping through my ears.

alert tmi for op. !we had a huge house spider in our bedroom last night, [the bigger ones are usually female] and this morning she was sitting in the bath looking for a drink, i rung out a flannel for her and have since put her in our spare room. we've called her sindy and she's welcome to stay as long as she keeps the flies down Smile

NOONE SHOULD BE TOLD TO GROW UP EITHER.

I don't have a fear of spiders, I'm quite content to leave them alone if I find them chilling out in a corner but fucking hell I would absolutely loose my shit if what happened to you happened to me op.

Yadnbu or overreacting at all.

Traumatised I think is the perfect description.

YANBU!!!! Spiders are bastards!!!

Nope, I'm not phobic of spiders but prefer to keep my distance with the big ones. I'd have reacted in exactly the same way!

When DS was a very small toddler in the wanting to hand you everything in sight stage he once handed DH a small but very alive and apparently unharmed spider! He jumped and made an odd squeaky sound. He doesn't mind spiders at all. I think it's more surprise at holding an alive thing unexpectedly, it was probably an instinctive shock reaction.

Something similar happened to me except I noticed as I went to grab the toilet paper that there was a spider hanging out on the roll.

I too have an extreme phobia of them and remain entirely grateful that I had turned the bathroom light on for some reason or another, which I don't usually do when I get out of bed to use the toilet and that I noticed before I smeared a spider on my fanjo because I genuinely think I would have died of a heart attack.

My DP is away from home so I flung the toilet roll out of the bathroom window with the spider on it, which was very brave for me.

Pulled the blind open this morning and a big hairy one dropped down onto the pillows, then scarpered under the bed! Not really scared of them but it's the big fat ones that I'm not a fan of!

I would have died on the spot if that happened to me and I'm not afraid of spiders.
Reminds me of when I got to Jamaica on holiday and on the way to the house we were staying in we stopped at a petrol station and I used the loo. There were 2 cockroaches in there and I freaked, got them out then as I picked up the loo roll there were 2 more on that, I screamed like i was being murdered and people came running to check on me, bit awkward with my draws round my ankles so I was screaming intermittently about the cockroaches and then for them not to come in. Not my finest moment haha, was an awful experience so I feel for you.

Got a panicked phone call from my 21yr old DS night before last, big hairy house spider above his bed in his downstairs bedroom, DP had to go and remove it for him and even he agreed it was huge. I have mosquito netting and velcro being delivered today for his window Grin

one came running across the floor at me the other day my husband found me on top of the bed screaming for him to get to get it, he thought it was hilarious but did remove it for me!

GAH. I’m not even especially squeamish about spiders and that made my stomach sink. You poor thing!

My cat eats house spiders - I call it services in lieu of rent!

YOU'RE traumatised? Think of the poor spider, only out for an evening stroll 😳

A good thing to try to remember is that there are no dangerous spiders in the UK. No matter how scary they are, they cant do you any harm.

I'm a converted arachnophobe. I used to be terrified of all spiders - I now have 26 tarantulas and actively seek out spiders. They are fascinating little creatures who mean you no harm.

I don’t have a spider phobia (I don’t like them though) and this would have freaked me out, too.

I once screamed out loud when I found a massive bloody cockroach running over me at an outdoor restaurant in Indonesia.
I was not amused by dd saying, ‘Calm down - it’s only a cockroach!’

It could be worse though - you've reminded me of this thread in Classics Grin

Well I don't have a fear of spiders, actually quite like them for keeping the household fly population down.

But the thought of wiping one over my nether regions brings a shudder to me too.

YANBU. Not even slightly.

That’s horrible, and not unreasonable at all. I think bathrooms attract them so I always shake out towels and bath mats but would it think about doing that to toilet roll. It’s not a logical fear, but a phobia so you can’t control your reaction. I’ve had hypnotherapy to help mine but I would have still screamed in that situation!

Report
Clumsyduck · 11/08/2020 11:11

We’ll see the positives here - Imagine if you’d have been further into the wiping process Shock 🤣

Seriously tho I’d have screamed to . A massive one was crawling on my bed once when I’d just woken up . Eughhhh
