To find my trampolining adult neighbour annoying AF

My neighbours are lovely and we get on well but the dad is like a (very loud) big kid and spends his days in the garden with his kids whooping, shouting "weeeeee, whoooopeeee, waaaaaaay, wooooooow" obviously chasing them round the garden or something and being very loud about it (this is all day). I don't actually mind this, it's nice to hear a dad have fun with his kids. In fact I'm quite envious, my ex always barked at the kids to leave him alone to relax whenever he was in the garden with them. I only mention this is just to paint a picture of my neighbour's personality.

Last week they got a trampoline and have put it on the highest point in the garden, meaning when they bounce I can see the tops of the kids' heads. But when Obnoxiously Loud Neighbour (OLN) bounces on it I can see the whole upper half of his body over the fence. The kids have been on it maybe once a day. He's on it about six times a day! I was sunbathing today and then saw OLN out the corner of my eye bouncing (alone) and saying "whooppeeeee" and then he looked my way, waved and said "Hi Glummy, catching something rays are we?".

AIBU to find this quite unneighbourly? I'm happy that he's such a happy chap but for the love of god you're an adult stop playing with kids toys!

YABU. I cannot for the life of me understand why so many posters on AIBU seem to hold pretensions of demanding the privacy that's commensurate with a detached dozen-acre farmhouse in Wiltshire, when the reality is...well, not that.

Yes i can see how that would annoy. But you're going to have to talk to him directly about it. It sounds like he's deliberately trying to catch your eye to be frank. Do you think he's perhaps trying to make a pass at you?

bronzedgodesswannabe Mon 03-Aug-20 21:46:19

Omg I would literally HATE that

I'd have to move

PiataMaiNei Mon 03-Aug-20 21:46:44

Are you annoyed at merely seeing him or disturbing you? The former is definitely unreasonable, the latter I see your point.

Noooo, he's just overly jolly. He's not flirty. Think Ned Flanders on speed.
I get what you mean about privacy but in the same vein I think if you have a garden next to someone you should make the small effort of not looking over your neighbours fence

Both I think - I wasn't expecting some human version of Tigger to disturb my sunbathing grin

Can you take a knife and shred the trampoline in the middle of the night?

Is this your neighbour? grin

HandsomeMaid Mon 03-Aug-20 21:56:30

That would drive me insane. I bet he calls his wife ‘mum’.

Quirrelsotherface Mon 03-Aug-20 21:57:29

Mine shoots a pellet gun across his garden and plays the guitar (badly) through the wall whilst the whole family sings (badly). Can we swap?

gutentag1 Mon 03-Aug-20 22:06:53

I'd go round and ask his wife to move it to a lower point in the garden.

LoopyLlama Mon 03-Aug-20 22:08:15

Leylandi could be your friend!

CountreeGurl Mon 03-Aug-20 22:09:04

Trampolines are antisocial if you have neighbours. This guy sounds like he is a complete idiot, I'd turn the hose on him

ballsdeep Mon 03-Aug-20 22:09:36

He seems a lovely neighbour. I'd definitely swap yours for mine, who shouts over the fence that I'm a fat bitch , four weeks after giving birth ! shock

userxx Mon 03-Aug-20 22:11:35

@ballsdeep Wtf 😱

SelkieQualia Mon 03-Aug-20 22:11:44

YABU. There are so many threads about evil neighbours deliberately m asking life hell, and you are complaining about a nervous playing with his kids and giving you a polite hello?

SelkieQualia Mon 03-Aug-20 22:12:07

*neighbour

Spinakker Mon 03-Aug-20 22:12:52

Wth!^

*@ballsdeep* Wtf 😱

She's awful. Also told me to shut my fat mouth when I asked her why she was constantly shouting at myself and children over the fence. Sad really, that at her time of life (70s) she feels the need to be so horrible. She's fallen out with every single person who lives around us.

jillandhersprite Mon 03-Aug-20 22:16:00

Phew it's not me!
I occasionally have a go on the kids trampoline as it's more fun than my usual pelvic floor exercises. But I try to make sure none of the neighbours are in as I would be embarrassed to be caught on it!
I can see how your neighbour is a tad on the irritating side though with his joviality and that all you can do is have a bit of a rant.
(I had a rant about our idiotic neighbours and afterwards realised their window was open and judging by their behaviour since they must have heard me - I should have ranted in here not to my husband with open windows!!!)

Toni42 Mon 03-Aug-20 22:17:35

Omg! Do we have the same neighbour? I just posted about them and I intensely dislike the father. I obviously couldn’t include all details as I always get anxiety about being identifiable but he does this too! Been doing this for quite a number of years so not your neighbour. What I’ve done is put my chair do my back is towards them. I ignore him when he talks to me. So bloody annoying. I put up with it for years but since lockdown I’m scaring myself of how much anger they are creating in me. His bloody laugh annoys me. I could put up with it was a couple of times a day but they practically live in their garden.

" I was sunbathing today and then saw OLN out the corner of my eye bouncing (alone) and saying "whooppeeeee" and then he looked my way, waved and said "Hi Glummy, catching something rays are we?". "

I'm afraid I'd have responded with 'Yes, and I was expecting a bit of fucking privacy to do so, given the height of my garden fence -now fuck off !'

JacobReesMogadishu Mon 03-Aug-20 22:18:11

Put something like this up at an angle at the fence by the trampoline. You won’t be able to see him, he may also get the hint that he’s annoying as fuck.

JayAlfredPrufrock Mon 03-Aug-20 22:19:53

That would drive me mad.

But I seem to have upset my twatty neighbour by being a grumpy old bitch so who knows.
