WWYD.. people sitting behind our garden

Hi as the title says really, for the past 4 or 5 days there have been some people meeting up behind our back garden, not a problem in general but they come from about 8/9 and still there at 1am.

I wouldn't mind if they were quieter tbh but they are so loud, singing sometimes and shouting over each other. I think they are having a drink together really.

The problem is my kids bedrooms are at the back and they have been waking a lot these past few nights, when they wouldn't normally.

It was getting to me, but didnt want to approach them as I don't know how they would react tbh.

But tonight I have just heard a child calling mum and heard crying so I looked out and could see a child of maybe 8? Shouting, dad says you must come home now, he sent me to get you. Then more shouting mum, mum. I am tired please come on!
All the while the mum and others are laughing as though it is all a big joke.
Kid then cries and I see a man, guessing his dad coming and taking the kid back home.

It made me feel really awful witnessing that.

What should I do, if anything?

I should add my childhood was a bit..turbulent. So I'm not sure if this really is such an awful thing or if I'm right in feeling it is just so wrong.

That was long! Sorry!

Phone the police and ask them to have a word. If they’re making a nuisance until 1am then they need to go elsewhere.

I wouldn’t interact with then yourself.

Tbh, if they don't care about their own child's sleep, they are not going to give a flying root muncher about yours.

Thank you, @2020wasShocking yes I think I might have to. Was secretly hoping one of the neighbours would, but looks unlikely.

My thoughts too, @lukasiak and I'd more likely get some verbal abuse.

Agree. They don't sound like reasonable approachable people. Report to the police anonymously is what I would do. Good luck. I would have felt sorry for the kid too.

I would also approach the police. Poor wee child having to go hunting for its mum like that.

Ring the police and do it all anonymously. Thanks

Put something really smelly in the area, just before they usually arrive, such as a stink bomb, rotting meat, etc and they’ll move on after a couple of nights.

Report
Boopeedoop · 15/07/2020 01:55

Spread jeyes fluid around. Stinks. They will move.

Sprinkler over the back fence?

Water the garden with a hose pipe and accidentally spray it over them.
If you have a dog, puts it's crap out there for a few days.
Bag of manure open at the end of your garden.
Stink bomb set off every evening as they arriveGrinI like this best. Do they still make stink bombs?.....yes, they do! Just googled.

Let us know how you get on.

Don't approach. Speak to the police.

YANBU at all

I doubt the police will have the time to do anything. I'd go for the non-toxic option of something smelly in the vicinity. I'd be very wary of anything toxic to animals and birds.

101, report antisocial behaviour (specifically say that), they’ll shift them.

Adults are meeting behind your garden to get pissed? Wtf?

LadyofTheManners · 15/07/2020 06:44

I take it it's a big group and your garden/the area behind it isn't overlooked to the road?

To be honest it's unlikely the police will do a lot, we have had a guy across the road have parties of up to 20 extra all through lockdown and the police did sweet FA despite most of the street complaining. Their attitude was they are busy down to the virus (scratching their arse as my elderly neighbor remarked bless him).

I would go for the stinking it out option or place a "CCTV in operation, no trespassing" sign as it may scare them if they think you have CCTV that could report their antisocial behaviour.

Please please do the stink bomb and then come back and update us all Grin

Seriously though, I would either do something like this or phone the police.

What's behind your back garden that makes people want to congregate there? Is it a field maybe? If so I'd have the sprinkler going so that it just goes over the fence.

Phone 101, ask your neighbours to call too

Report
Anniegetyourgun · 15/07/2020 06:50

The council, for noise, surely? Police for the other kind of disturbance (violence, breakages etc).

I second a bit of dog crap.

OP we get this as we live by a public footpath. In our case it's always youth.

We keep calling the police. They loiter, are antisocial and vandalise things including our property.

Please call the police. You have the right to enjoy your property. If you can find who they are, if they live in a council house you can complain to the housing agency.

Moth balls? I bought some ‘traditional’ ones - and they absolutely reek . (Was to put down a rat hole in garden!) I’ve had to put the bag in the garage and double wrap as so stinky . Scatter some of those around.

Where are they exactly? Is it a park?

You could probably get some durian online. It's been ranked as one of the worst smells by scientists.

Here's a link to do just that Smile
