I have a friend that refers to sliced bread as “toast” it’s starting to REALLY get on my nerves. Born and bred in England with absolutely no issues with the English language but can not distinguish between sliced bread and the end result of it being toasted being TWO DIFFERENT BLOODY THINGS.

“I had two toasts for breakfast”
“I have cheese toasts” (instead of cheese sandwiches).

Aaaaaaaaaarghhhh ffs , no amount of addressing it has made a difference in 15 poxy years.

I think that's charming! Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

That would annoy me to. But it is quite funny...does she make her own toasts or buy them from a toasts shop? grin

Raw toast

Just woke DS up laughing so hard at this

LittenKitten Tue 14-Jul-20 22:36:47

What does she call toast?

Dee1975 Tue 14-Jul-20 22:37:22

🤣🤣 would annoy me too
It’s BREAD! (Until it’s toasted!)

Your friend sounds quirky.
Or eccentric.
Bread is bread, toast is toast. End of.

Her inaccuracies would rip my knitting too.
grin

I don’t believe it 😂

I can think of 2 analogies to the bread/toast woes.

Someone at my old workplace used to call the toilet the bathroom. "Just going to the bathroom, be right back." There were no baths at that workplace, and there aren't any shower rooms either.

The same guy as above used to refer to his wife as his "girlfriend". Like as if they haven't married yet, but they are definitely married.

Are you confident that she’s not on MN? As I’d imagine this is fairly outing. Hello, toast friend 👋🏻

LittenKitten

What does she call toast?

Toasted toast?

altiara Tue 14-Jul-20 22:47:14

She’s not even saying toast but toasts!
Maybe you’ve interpreted it wrongly:
“I had two toasts for breakfast”
Did she have champagne or Buck’s Fizz when toasting?
“I have cheese toasts”
Too much alcohol for breakfast so at lunchtime she is toasting x’s anniversary with cheese.

Sparklesocks Tue 14-Jul-20 22:47:18

I think I would see it as an eccentricity grin

Coffeeandteach Tue 14-Jul-20 22:48:33

I have a few Eastern European friends who refer to sliced bread as toast bread because they don't consider it real bread and would only ever use it for toast. But it certainly isn't toast!

Was the first person American? They seem to call the toilet either the bathroom or the restroom. Always makes me laugh when I see toilet paper described as bath tissue - conjures up an image of someone getting out of the bath and dabbling themselves dry with sheets of Andrex.

DanielRicciardosSmile Tue 14-Jul-20 22:50:03

Sigh, dabbing not dabbling.

MyShinyWhiteTeeth Tue 14-Jul-20 22:50:56

I have a friend who does this. It drives me up the wall. I used to think she thought it was cute or made her feel special having her special words. She does other mispronunciations and insists on saying piss-arre to rhyme with bizarre instead of pizza.

I used to pull her up on it because I find it so irritating. I think it's purposely done and she gets a kick out of being irritating though.

I knew someone who would call the cone (wafer) for an ice cream, the cone holder! smile

Oysterbabe Tue 14-Jul-20 22:51:35

They're doing it to wind you up.
My 2 year old calls sliced bread toast too. I don't think he's trying to be annoying though.

CuriousaboutSamphire Tue 14-Jul-20 22:52:26

I got as far as raw toast grin

Inkpaperstars Tue 14-Jul-20 22:52:57

That would drive me crazy OP! YANBU.

Nightshifter Tue 14-Jul-20 22:53:15

"Born and toast in England..."

Corrected it for you.

TatianaBis Tue 14-Jul-20 22:53:43

thunderandsunshine01 Tue 14-Jul-20 22:55:48
