Masks - GET A GRIP.

So. Lots of whinging about masks at the moment as BoJo finally hauls his arse into gear and says that you have to wear them in the shops and on public transport.

In Catalunya where I live masks are obligatory. Every time you are in public. Including in the street. Inside and out. The exceptions are

Medical conditions (you need a paper justifying this)
When playing sport
Children under the age of 6
If eating or drinking

If you don't comply - 100 euro fine. No arguments.

Most people here were already wearing masks anyway (because we saw the horror at the beginning of the pandemic here and we know what a real lockdown is like - not allowed out at all, children locked inside for nearly 3 months, etc)

People arent whining and complaining nor imagining how they can invent aome excuse to mean that the rules don't apply to them and the overwhelming majority of people are wearing them all the time.

Tourists not so much but they getting fined. Good.

So England. PLEASE. Stop with the selfishness. Literally dozens of countries have mandatory mask wearing and citizens comply because they care about each other and don't spend their time acting entitled and "I'm all right Jack"

There are articles in the European press about this. Literally "English people are selfish - is it any wonder they are so resistant to wear masks". It's embarrassing. As a nation, as a society, it's time to grow up and just put the mask on like everyone else.

English people. You aren't special. You are starting to look like the kid who gets thw whole class detention because they just keep on breaking the rules.

Wear the mask. Please. It's for the safety of everyone.

And if you ABSOLUTELY MUST come to Spain on holiday, even more so.

I'm not English but getting the popcorn out for this one...

MorganKitten Tue 14-Jul-20 14:31:26

We knew it was coming, people need to get a grip.

muststopeatingfroyo Tue 14-Jul-20 14:33:01

Totally agree OP

DibDibDibduh Tue 14-Jul-20 14:33:11

I'm English and I haven't heard anyone moaning , or are you just looking for an argument?

bobbieflekman Tue 14-Jul-20 14:33:26

YA soooo NBU

Just wear a flipping mask, how hard is it

SkaraBrae Tue 14-Jul-20 14:33:30

So far I've done indoors (incl. public transport) masks.
Outdoors no masks but 2 metres social distancing.
I live in SE London and there are so few masks you notice people wearing them.

CallmeAngelina Tue 14-Jul-20 14:34:42

Just the English? What about the Welsh/Scots/N.Irish?
And ALL English people? What about those of us who've followed all the rules set, plus some?

And no, I won't be coming to Spain, thanks all the same.

bert3400 Tue 14-Jul-20 14:35:40

I live in the Valencia region and completly agree OP. My parents are visiting at the moment and are relishing the social distancing and mask wearing, they feel safe and they feel everyone is taking this seriously. I don't think they want to back to the chaos of the UK

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Tue 14-Jul-20 14:35:49

There are Tory voters cutting up their membership cards in protest, the daft irresponsible snowflakes.

CM0TD Tue 14-Jul-20 14:35:49

You know, I find it really annoying hearing people whose babies sleep for longer than mine complaining about how tired they are. But I don’t tell them to get a grip, because I understand that they need to vent.

Don’t worry about it OP - people in England will comply once the mandate comes in. And those who can’t wear a face covering will either be excluded from shops or will brave it hoping not to be challenged by busybodies.

In the meantime, it’s ok for people to voice concerns, annoyance, fear. It really shouldn’t bother you.

Pukkatea Tue 14-Jul-20 14:35:54

I'm so embarrassed by what a laughing stock we have become, and what babies we collectively seem to be. YANBU.

altforvarmt Tue 14-Jul-20 14:36:41

Just the English? What about the Welsh/Scots/N.Irish?

I’m in Scotland. It’s already mandatory here and we’re following the rules.

MashedPotatoBrainz Tue 14-Jul-20 14:36:58

People are being asked to make a minor change to the way they do things to save lives, not sacrifice their first born ffs.

Livingoffcoffee Tue 14-Jul-20 14:38:02

I'm English and I haven't heard anyone moaning , or are you just looking for an argument?

Look at 90% of the threads on here. People are losing it at the idea of wearing a mask.

Completely agree OP. I can't understand (unless it's a genuine medical issue) why everyone is kicking up so much. But if they'd rather stay home than wear a mask to protect other people and prevent another lockdown (which they'd no doubt also hate), good riddance.

Crunchymum Tue 14-Jul-20 14:39:03

Do kids (over 6) wear masks in school?

NotFrozen Tue 14-Jul-20 14:39:20

@Changednamesorry I agree with you

Jumblebumblemess Tue 14-Jul-20 14:39:21

Yanbu. It has been ridiculous the amount of people kicking off about human rights blah blah blah. You would think they had to wear them 24/7.

CM0TD Tue 14-Jul-20 14:39:25

I don’t really know why people are so bothered about other people voicing concerns. Especially when govt advice has chopped and changed. It’s not enough that people comply, they have to enjoy it too? I know lots of people in places where masks are mandated who complain about the discomfort etc.

It’s already mandatory here and we’re following the rules.
But it's not mandatory in England yet, so it's too early to say how many will follow the rules. Depends how hot they are on fining people I expect.
I hope they do. I also would like to see masks in schools as, let's face it, it's the same virus wafting around, but I'll wait and see.

SuzieCarmichael Tue 14-Jul-20 14:39:47

Hear hear, OP. It’s embarrassing.

GreytExpectations Tue 14-Jul-20 14:40:16

Completely agree, OP. We have become such a laughing stock. For those who claim they haven't seen any moaning, just look at all the threads on here about how much people "just couldn't possibly wear a covering" for proof. It's ridiculous, the nation has such a "I'm alright, Jack" mentality

Annabanana1234 Tue 14-Jul-20 14:40:28

Agree 100%. I’m in Scotland and whilst the majority are complying there’s a vocal bunch of idiots who don’t like being told what to do by anyone 🙄 yet they’ll happily take the furlough money, the increased benefits or anything else they’re entitled to.

CallmeAngelina Tue 14-Jul-20 14:40:55

MN, I have found, is really NOT representative of the world outside. Just look at the schools' threads.
