Why do I feel like this EVERY morning?

SquishyBones · 13/07/2020 07:06

I know everyone wakes up feeling groggy but for me, I feel like absolute shit every morning. Beyond exhausted, nauseous, headache, extreme lethargy, dizzy and lightheaded .... EVERY morning. It goes away once I’ve been up around 2 hours. I’m sick of it. Every morning I get Up thinking I’m going to have to call in sick it’s that bad. This has been the case for around two years now.

I’m 39 and my only health complaint is iron deficiency anaemia

Have you had all of your gas appliance checked and got yourself a carbon monoxide alarm?

Dehydration?

Bad pillow?

Poor sleep- could you have sleep apnoea? I have fibromyalgia and wake up feeling like I haven't slept.

Sounds like sleep apnea.

Carbon monoxide alarm, drink a large glass of water when you get up, window open an inch overnight, do you snore?

How about using a Fitbit to see how you’re sleeping?

I’d go back to the GP though if you’re already doing these things, and ask for referral to a sleep clinic if you’re sure there are no blood pressure or circulatory problems.

Unrefreshing sleep is the medical term I think - I had it for a couple of years it’s horrible :( so I feel for you.

There are hundreds of causes, mine was liver problems, but it could be anything. Go to doctors is your best bet, I hope it gets better for you

Do you drink alcohol ? I always sleep badly and feel crap the day after drinking - and I only have 3 glasses of wine !

Have you had your blood sugars checked ? I’m wondering if you feel better later because you have eaten and your blood sugar has raised.

Have you been checked for b12 deficiency? As I used to feel like I had a constant hangover and just had no energy then gp checked b12 and since I've been having b12 injections for the last 6 yrs it made a massive difference

I agree with going to the GP, explaining your symptoms and say that you'd like bloods done.

Things I would try are:

Drinking more water
Checking for carbon monoxide
Sleep in a different room even if the lounge to see if it makes any difference
Ask gp for any applicable tests - explain this is a real issue and push for help
Full review of diet in case of intolerances
Read up on anaemia, is this a normal part of it

How old is your mattress? Try a new one if funds allow. Is your bedroom clean, calm and tidy? Boring but these things do make a difference to sleep quality.

So weird - I feel the same! No advice OP but solidarity.

Definitely get vitamin levels checked - I had very low vitamin D and folate, and lower end B12. Supplementing these has made a significant difference to my fatigue (I have ME) - it’s not gone but the mornings aren’t as awful as they were. And yes, other things to consider like sleep apnoea

Could look at carbon dioxide too if your window isn't open - we just got a monitor and were shocked at how high it is in the morning. We've been keeping the windows shut with a baby in with us and have been feeling really groggy in the morning.

I experience the same thing too. The headaches are the worst. I dont have them every day, but at least 3 or 4 times a week. I dont have any suggestion, but I have low iron too. I do wonder if its connected to that.

All symptoms of anaemia -agree with the CO detector.

But full blood tests on thyroid, FBC, B12 etc and then go from there.

Are you taking iron supplements?

What are you doing about your anaemia? Are you taking tablets or anything?

Get a kidney function test.

I get this too - mine is caused by sleep constantly being disturbed by baby - he's up every 45mins at moment - do you have similar problem? I'm also anaemic!

moonagedaydreamer · 13/07/2020 08:21

I used to feel like this. It was an underactive thyroid. It did take about 5 years before I got a diagnosis though and I still feel like this when I'm under medicated. Good luck

Is your anaemia being treated because all those symptoms sound like that.

Yes it could very well be your anaemia

How are you treating it

I have the same. I never wake up feeling great regardless if I’ve slept well or not, I often say I feel like I’ve slept on a cobbled street. I don’t feel right until around 11am. I too am anaemic. I am also 47 suffer from bad anxiety and am in perimenopause but have felt this way for several years now. My gp hasn’t been much help.

PegLegAntoine · 13/07/2020 08:29

Definitely have blood tests.

What are you eating before bed? If you are having anything carby you could be having a blood sugar crash.

I didn’t even think of carbon dioxide levels.
