AIBU?

AIBU that this is likely to happen?

OK so this may be a hoax/fake news from twitter but regardless of that and given I have seen so many my tesco/Asda/Hermes driver text me and asked me out posts on MN this worries me.

Back story she went to the pub the bar tender brought her drink said no charge.
She has not been on Tinder for 2 years & has a boyfriend plus her FB is set to highest settings.

AIBU to think this will happen to lots of women who hand over their personal details and I fear it could go further than just a message?

Why did she hand over personal details to the bartender?

PicsInRed

When you go to a pub or restaurant you have to give your name and number for track and trace covid rules.

I don’t think I had to give my number, just my name and address? Unless I missed the request about my phone number.

Ahhh. Yes. Yes, you are quite right, creeps will take advantage, absolutely.

I thought the "track and trace" was a package of some kind 🤣🤣🤣

You may be right I have not visited pubs but for FB all he needed was her name which he got from the track and trace requirement.
Without that she would just have been a nameless customer.

FGS. And this attitude is why track and trace won't work. Hmm

If you feel this is an issue, don't go to a pub.

A guy once got my details when I opened up a Blockbuster account and used it to find me on Facebook.

Its an invasion of privacy and it feels horrible. This is going to make people not want to participate!

I guess this is a risk - it's a pretty small one, in the grand scheme of things, though. Years ago my friend got a flirty text from the cashier at the bank Shock who had taken her number from her customer file!

Tbh it's far more likely they have mutual friends or theres a link between tinder and Facebook.

But yes. If you are worried dont go to the pub.

It won't work if people abuse their position.
Why is that the womans fault for following the rules if men don't?

It's a breach of GDPR to use it for asking someone out of a date - they can report it to the ICO (www.ico.org.uk).

Anyone who receives a communication based on personal info should immediately report it - it breaches GDPR and can result in massive fines to the organisation involved.

So because men cannot be trusted to folliw the rules I as a women need to stay indoors?
Is that what you are saying?

Rather then men should not contact me without my consent you think I should not go out in public?

Tbf if you read the relationships board there is sometimes women posting of men for example they seen working in a coffee shop etc saying they want to ask him out and people are always pushing them to find him on fb etc, so it happens both ways and not just men that do it. There always told to “go for it!”

My sister once got a prescription from the pharmacy and the man came to her house and posted his number through her letter box! I told her to complain but she actually went on a date with him Confused
