To be sick of Covid whingers?!

I am soooooooo fed up of listening to people moan about covid and what they've 'lost' from their own perspective without seeing the bigger picture.

Maternity leave and pregnancy rights particularly irritate me.. daily I see people moaning and creating petitions to extend maternity leave for those who were effected by covid because it's not fair they've missed out on valuable experiences. I'm not on maternity leave but I do have a 1 year old and it's equally hard to be stuck at home day in day out with him. We miss parks, we miss groups.. how do we get our time back? How can we be compensated?! We can't.. we suck it up and make the best of it.. Same as those on mat leave should.

Moaning about partners not being allowed to appointments, scans, visiting hours etc. I'm pregnant, my husband hasn't been to my scans, I'm having a section so it's likely he won't be at the birth either.. it's shit I agree. But to moan about it. To feel robbed and go on just irritates me.. your moaning you husband can't be at your 12 week scan.. families are missing funerals, missing saying goodbye to loved ones. People are dying alone in hospitals. Being alone for your scan is not huge in comparison. There are extremely clinically vulnerable women needing to access maternity services so why shouldn't be made as safe as physically possible for them. Why can't people accept that?!

I'm disappointed. I thought this pandemic would bring us together, unite us, make people less selfish but I was clearly very naive. Everyone's made sacrifices and everyone has been effected in some way.. why can't people try and see the bigger picture.

I also think the bigger picture is difficult to see, because it is like a dense fog.

Oh i don't know...a good old moan can do the world of good. Better out than in i say. I havn't minded lockdown but it's been frickin awful for the majority.
Although it dosn't compare to being bombed in the blitz.

I tell you why. It's because the government have decided to relinquish responsibility and let us all 'use our judgement' which is code for slag everyone else and their decisions off and come to a decision about what the law should be via social control instead of actually doing any governing.

Agreed!

And the whining by pregnant women about not being able to have their husbands at scans but to then be told that their baby has died or has serious problems. One of the many reasons why a woman should have her partner (who is very much involved too) be there.

Birth partners are allowed at caesareans.

And people are allowed to feel however it is they feel, why waste energy whinging about it? Live and let live, it's much better for your personal stress levels.

@PatricksRum policy at my hospital currently doesn't allow partners in theatre. It could change, or could not.. I have 4 weeks but we're in an area with rising cases so I can't see it being lifted. But it is what it is. He can meet baby but won't be allowed onto the ward so until we're home he won't be able to visit us either.

I discovered my baby had a condition not compatible with life at my 20 week scan. I'm a strong person but I wouldn't have copes alone had my partner not been there.
I lost the last month of my maternity leave and was never able to say goodbye to or get numbers from people I'd gotten to know over the last year. It's very sad, we're allowed to have opinions.

OP what trust is that? I've not heard of any where that is the policy.

Yes moaning about people moaning who haven't considered the bigger picture. It's almost like covid has targeted them and they're victims.. were all victims in some way.. it isn't personal to anyone.

You’re moaning about people moaning.

A colleagues baby was born prematurely and sadly passed away, her husband was not allowed to meet his baby, or even see his wife. His wife wasn’t allowed a cooled crib to spend time with her baby. The first time they were reunited was when she was discharged from hospital. But you know, how dare they whinge.

Bloody hell theres a lot of whining in that OP Grin

I do agree that COViD has shown true colours, humans are selfish, this wont unite us it will just make people even more selfish.

Agree not heard about partners not being allowed into theatre. I had my second baby during the peak and this definitely wasn’t a thing - only if birth partner displayed symptoms of coronavirus were they not allowed in

Also, where I was fortunate to have had all my scans before lockdown everyone has a right to moan. Just because their problem isn’t a big as someone else’s doesn’t make it irrelevant. They’re allowed to feel how they want to feel, it’s very sad to miss out on such a special moment with your partner and they are allowed to feel saddened that this isn’t allowed. Be kind

Im sorry you had to receive that news, it is devastating. And I do understand the need to have your partner there in those circumstances. There was a man with his wife at my growth scan last week and I did feel sad and thought there must be a good reason for the exception to the rule. X

Bloody hell Simon, that’s horrendous Sad

OP, do you want a medal for your stoicism? Misery is relative, it’s possible to worry about more than one thing at once. And you’ve got a nerve moaning at such length about other people moaning.

So what is the "bigger picture"? Some people have had a really shit time in lockdown. You don't get to be annoyed if they want to moan about it. Read SimonJT post and tell me that person should just quit moaning because everyone has suffered somehow.

Report
Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 07/07/2020 22:49

Who, in your opinion is allowed to moan? Or should everyone just shut up and get on with it?
