To think at 31 my friend isn’t too old to be having a baby

My lovely friend has recently started ttc she’s worried she’s too old and she’s going to struggle with her pregnancy due to her age. I’ve reassured her best as I can I personally had my two children at 21 and 23 so I personally don’t know what it will be like for her.

31 is about average for a first time mum, she's bonkers to be worried!

Yeah, she has no reason to be worried. 31 is an average age to have a baby.

Yes that’s what I’ve told her I was one of the youngest when I went to any baby groups. A lot of mothers in their 40’s even.

I'm 41 and hope to have another after! As society the age we have babies has moved, now it's quite normal.

Surely that’s a normal age?

I’m in my early 20s and feel too young for kids (personally)

What do you think, OP?

I was 30 and 33 when I had mine

I was 35 and 39 when I had my children. About the same age as everyone else on the school run. Mid thirties is quite normal these day's. Being worried will only make TTC harder. Tell her to save her worries for the next 30 years Smile

31 is average. She has no reason to worry.

31 sounds young to me! Its after 35 it allegedly 'drops off' but in reality anyone I've known with fertility issues were younger and it was unrelated to age.

She’s bonkers

Goodness not round me. I'm 30 and the youngest mum in my area I've met in a year and a half!

I think it’s a good age to have children and although I don’t regret mine and I love them I wish sometimes that I had waited till I was older.

My Dsis was worried that 28 was too late! She droned on and onnnnnnnnn about it for months. In the end I honestly had to sit on my clenched fists to stop myself from calling her a self absorbed twat.

It is a lovely age. Most people will be still active to cope with the early years, more secure financially, and have a good idea about who they are, what they want from life and how they want to raise their children.

Definitely not too old at all. I'm 32 and I'm the only one out of my friendish group to have children.

Not too old at all. My antenatal group had 8 women in it. 7 out of the 8 were in their 30s. And only one was younger at 24.

I'm 31, came off Nexplanon in Feb and was pregnant in April. I know it's not easy for everyone and to be honest, I was shocked, thinking I'd be less fertile in my 30s than I was when I had the implant inserted.

I was 27 & 29 when I had my two and was one of the youngest mums at baby groups. 31 I’d say is still the young side of average

I was 40 when I had my one and only DC. She's either a bit daft or just attention seeking.

It does differ by where you live. Last place I lived I was strange for not having kids at 30. Now I'm in a city I'm 33 with my first and it's very normal, lots of first time mum's are older than me.

I'm 41 and doing IVF, she's not too old at all!

31 isn't too old, it's average. Possibly even on the slightly young side of average these days.

There was another thread on here about someone who's 48. That's too old for all sorts of reasons, 31 is not.

Oh man, I’m 30 and we haven’t started trying yet... my friends had their children at 18/19, I’m the only childless one, I feel geriatric in comparison. But I hope I’m not too old overall!

I’m 31 and just had my first, she definitely isn’t too old! I was told however that I was getting on a bit by older female relatives, think there is definitely a regional/generational divide when it comes to what is considered as a “good age”
