Hi posting on behalf o friend.... “just hoping for some closure on an argument I’m having with my DH (we are gay) I think baby should be called Siegfried (after the recently sadly deceased Siegfried, of Siegfried and Roy) He wants Paul. Who’s right?”

What about Elton and John?

GU24Mum Tue 30-Jun-20 17:25:37

They're quite different in style! Not sure anyone is right or wrong - Paul is more neutral (boring?); Siegfried always reminds me of "All Creatures Great & Small" (I'm showing my age)...........

tillytoodles1 Tue 30-Jun-20 17:26:10

Poor kid. Call him Paul.

Prettybluepigeons Tue 30-Jun-20 17:26:19

Maybe Balonz?

Princess (Michael) Miss Pushy (Mitchell)

Ha funny... but it’s a genuine question. Ing is a little... shall we say... theatrical than the other. How do you fairly decide this stuff?

I think its all down to a good ol' drinking game. Last one standing wins

CurtainWitcher Tue 30-Jun-20 17:33:48

Why would anyone want to name a baby after someone from Siegfried and Roy??!!

DysonFury Tue 30-Jun-20 17:34:23

Who calls a baby Paul in this day and age? Siegfried is truly horrific though. Poor kid.

IsMiseMorag Tue 30-Jun-20 17:34:24

Suggest they get a cat which they can call Emperor Siegfried Roy Puss-Moggstanley VIII and create an Instagram account for him.

Then call the actual child Paul and let his own personality do the work of making him stand out from the crowd.

sarahfergusonismybitch Tue 30-Jun-20 17:34:45

what's Balonz - sorry...

birdwatching Tue 30-Jun-20 17:35:26

sorry, you cannot call him Siegfried. Call him Paul!

sarahfergusonismybitch Tue 30-Jun-20 17:36:16

Maybe Pauline

iklboo Tue 30-Jun-20 17:36:34

Siegfried reminds me of All Creatures Great And Small too.

Paul is a bit meh (even though it's my dad's name).

If you're theatrical you could go for Liberace? wink

Laurence (Olivier)
John (Gielgud)
Richard (Burton / Harris)
Oliver (Reed)
Peter O'Toole)

Slightly off topic but when did Siegfried die? Wikipedia says Roy died in May but Siegfried is still alive.

simonisnotme Tue 30-Jun-20 17:42:01

awful names

RichPetunia Tue 30-Jun-20 17:45:27

None of those names. Keep looking.

Nousernameforme Tue 30-Jun-20 17:47:47

I would go Siegfried could shorten it to Ziggy.
Not Paul If he wants something more traditional and short then Jack is still good popular without being overwhelming probably only one or two in the year group

PicklePig31 Tue 30-Jun-20 18:03:46

@IsMiseMorag I’m howling at your post grin

CruCru Tue 30-Jun-20 18:09:25

I know a baby Paul (and a few adult ones). It isn’t fashionable (or to my taste) but it is a proper name, with a saint and everything. Siegfried is a heavy burden to make someone else carry.

Yes, this.

daisypond Tue 30-Jun-20 18:13:04

Paul. It’s due a revival. I believe it’s a top-ten baby name in Germany. Siegfried is too much. Is there nowhere between the two extremes you can meet?

Siegfried Rheingold Walkure Gotterdammerung has a nice ring to it
