AIBU to think that Hermes shouldn't have left my parcel on my doorstep.

Didn't know where to post as I'm rubbish with mumsnet! Basically, I ordered some new bedding online from a popular store. Spent about £70 so not major money but still totally miffed!

Hermes sent me a text saying my parcel would be delivered from 10-2, being in work I couldn't get home for it (they sent me this text at 10am so not like I could've prepared for it). Then I got a text at 1pm saying they had successfully delivered it. I thought possibly they had left with a neighbour. Got home. No parcel anywhere (checked everywhere, back garden, bins etc...), I didn't leave a safe place as there isn't one really! No slip through letter box, have asked all of my neighbours basically if they've had it by accident.
I'm guessing it's been left on my door step and taken? Or not delivered at all.
Anyway, I've contacted the store and they have said that Hermes have definitely delivered it, it says they have a signature but I'm guessing this is automatic as many are not taking signatures because of covid. Nobody was in so it's impossible to have a signature. But anyway, the store said they are 'investigating' and will see what they can do and to give it up to 3 weeks....

AIBU to think that this is definitely not good enough? Can they really just leave a parcel on my door step and walk off knowing nobody is in? Has anyone been in a similar situation, will I even be sent replacement items? I know it's only trivial but it's stressing me!! What do I do.

Hermes do that to me too. I have a large parcel box outside the house, with a big sign on it saying “PARCEL BOX”. I fill in all those further info boxes to say leave in parcel box if I’m out. They still leave my chuffing parcels on the doorstep.

To make it even more annoying, they do it when I’m in. They don’t even bother knocking. No card through the door so no idea my parcel is sitting out there in the rain, in full view of everyone driving/walking past the house. Bloody annoying.

If you’re not going to be there to receive it, why order it?

I thought when you get the text with delivery window, you also get a link to the website where you can divert the package to a neighbour or leave instructions- i.e. put under hedge, etc.

Anyway, if you didn’t get it at all, the shop is responsible for tracking down where it went. If they cannot provide evidence you got it, they have to send you replacement items or a refund. If you can afford it, sometimes it’s better to just reorder the items and tell them to refund the missing ones when they’re done investigating. That usually closes the case because there is no way an honest person would fake steal the item to get it for free and then reorder it. It shows you didn’t get it, and you still need it now, not in three weeks.

I saw Martin Lewis talking about this about a week ago. I can't find the clip but he basically said that unless the delivery company can 100% prove you received the item (ie. if they took a picture of you holding it - just a picture of it on your doorstep won't do), then it doesn't count as delivered and you can get a refund.

Yes I've had this problem - not because I wasn't in to receive it, I was, but because they 'delivered' somewhere else, and of course didn't take a signature (or a photo) because of the virus. Most couriers take a photo these days, but Hermes didn't. It was so frustrating trying to sort it out, because it's all automated, and all the choices just ended up being circular, leading me back to the 'it's been delivered' screen, when the problem was that it wasn't delivered TO ME. And contacting the companies involved (2 of them) was equally frustrating, as they also wanted to claim it had been delivered, and it took a great many back and forth emails before they finally accepted it hadn't been. Or at least, agreed to refund/replace, whether or not they actually believed me. It was about 5 or 6 weeks in the end before I finally got new goods. It was over £100 with one company. The other was a much smaller thing from ebay, which was actually good in the end as you can set up a dispute and explain to ebay, who then decide how to resolve it themselves, whereas with the company, I had to fill in forms and wait for a lot of investigations. Curtains.. That is a daft comment as generally when you order, you have no idea when they are going to bring a parcel. Do you sit in day after day in case? Hermes are bad for saying they have delivered when they haven't as it helps them meet targets. It may appear tommorow .

I've had Hermes mark parcels down as delivered when they haven't been and then they've turned up the next day. When they leave them in my safe space they put a card through the letterbox.

Unless you've specified a 'safe place' to leave the parcel, then Hermes should have tried to redeliver the next day. Ultimately the store you bought the bedding from will need to make a claim with Hermes. Your best bet is to contact the store again and say that you didn't consent to Hermes leaving the item on your doorstep or any other 'safe' place. They should refund or resend the items, but it may take a bit of persistence on your part.

When something similar happened to me (later found out my dodgy neighbour stole the parcel), I took the approach of acknowledging to the store that the issue was with the delivery company rather than themselves but that I'm still out of pocket. Sometimes if you're polite and reasonable a business will fasttrack sending a replacement/refund.

Ordered some things once from a popular beauty store and Hermes delivered it elsewhere.

Instead of delivering it to mine which is street, I'm assuming they delivered it to road. When I spoke to Hermes all they could say was they delivered it to a property and across the road is a furniture store. Wasn't my place so the company I ordered from sent me a replacement.

I've had several items left on my door step recently despite having a designated safe place inside my porch. Thankfully nothing has gone missing as yet but I can't believe drivers think it's ok just to leave things outside for anyone to potentially walk off with!

Pah. It's Hermes. They just make it up. I live in an apartment block. My fave was when they said they'd left it in my porch.

I have had lots of parcels left on my doorstep in recent months, despite being in, one delivered to my neighbour's garage, despite being correctly addressed, and received an email to say a parcel had been delivered to me when I was in the study beside the front door and it blatantly hadn't! I queried the last one and it said it had been delivered to addressee and signature obtained - the signature was a screenshot of their website saying they weren't taking signatures due to COVID. So hardly proof of purchase.

Courier actually delivered it one hour later - he just marked it as delivered early.

As you can clearly see, as someone who WFH and is generally in, I often have a magical mystery hunt so I have nothing but sympathy for you, OP. It's really poor.

It will turn up tomorrow. The delivery driver probably marked it as delivered and will come back with in on their round tomorrow. Happens all the time at the moment, they mark as delivered on the way up the path (as they used to then you would sign and that would confirm the delivery) or whatever then realise you aren't in. This wasn't an issue when the receiver had to sign but that isn't happening at the moment for obvious reasons so as soon as they tap delivered, that's it and it goes through as delivered

Hermes are known for leaving parcels on doorsteps. It’s happened to me twice recently and I was in on both occasions! They were featured on Joe Lycet’s programme recently too.

Thanks everyone else for helpful comments! I was thinking it would just turn up but this was on Thursday now and hasn’t turned up, should’ve but it in my original post, sorry! The company have confirmed with Hermes that it has definitely been delivered, not doubting they haven’t lobbed it on my doorstep and drove off but I haven’t got my items 😫😂

I’ll politely chase it up with the company this week and if not I’ll have to re order the items and wait for a refund. What a nightmare! So unfair, especially when I paid 6.95 for delivery... worse things going on in the world I suppose, just annoying! Thanks everyone 😊

Any recent deliveries to us of significant value have required the driver to get a photo of us + parcel instead of a signature (though we haven't had to touch the parcel). I'd assume that if the company you bought from was sufficiently concerned they would have paid extra for that level of delivery. So it is down to them to sort it out as there is no proof that the parcel actually reached you.

Hermes are awful! They've always just dumped parcels on my doorstep, even when living right on a main road. I was dismayed last week when I placed an order and received an email saying it would be delivered by them. Luckily I was at home at the time and looked out for it.

Hermes have done this to me so many times. They mark them as delivered when they run out of time and bring them the following day.

Today for a nice change they left someone else's parcel on our doorstep and it was ripped so looked like someone has opened it. We left it upstairs with a note but am annoyed as it looks like we were trying to steal it

I ordered a winter coat for my son from H&M a couple of years ago. It turned out Hermes put it by the gate to the next field (you have to drive through to get to our property). Some thieving walker stole it 😡 another time a dog walker delivered a package - again Hermes. But the new delivery guy is brilliant.

Can see that so many people have had problems with Hermes! I definitely think the parcel has been plonked on the door step and taken tbh... or it's been lost with the driver. I just don't know why the driver couldn't have put a slip through my door and come back another time. Such hassle!

Hermes are dreadful!

Mind you, Amazon left a parcel on my doorstep earlier today. Found it as I left to pick up my son from school!

Lovely Royal Mail take them to my mum down the road or stash in the garage - leave a note always.
