As long as it’s not pointing into anyone else’s houses or gardens they’re not breaking a law, so if it gives them peace of mind having it there it’s no one else’s business

We moved in to a house that has 6 cameras on the outside. The neighbours told us the previous occupants used to have them everywhere inside too (which explains a lot of holes in the coving). We checked everywhere to make sure none were left, didnt find any but did find a very stern looking passport photo of the man above one of the door frames. I have no idea why we didn't spot it in the previous 6 weeks since we moved in and it gave me the serious creeps. There were lots of other pointers to them being very very strange.

I did. As a child. As a result I take all the home security I can have, especially seeing that I’m a single woman.

We have Ring security cameras outside and a camera in our lounge because our dog, who is a knobber, was suspected of shenanigans while we were at work so we got a camera we could chat through and tell him to stop being a bellend. It didn't work, the dog is still a knob, but the camera is still there. I can't recall the last time I looked at the footage - it's linked to my phone so I could spy if I was away from home but that sounds rubbish.

Just tell us why you are asking? Do you want to spy on your teens? Surely if they know there are cameras, what would be the point of them?

I'd be pissed off if there were cameras inside my house and I didn't know, I've seen a few posts on here over the years where abusive partners have set cameras up with their partner's knowledge. IMO it's an invasion of privacy

I can see why some people would consider them for security purposes, but if I had them I would insist they were only switched on when the house was empty as I couldn't be done with anyone 'spying' on me when I'm at home. My husband is bad enough looking at the outside cameras when he's at work or off doing hobbies and sometimes comments on what I'm doing outside. I tell him to fuck off being a peeping tom.

I know someone who has this. He works away a lot and can keep an eye on workmen in the house.....but they don’t know about the system and it’s not an obvious system. I’ve never seen the cameras when I’ve been round.

My ex husband had cameras in and outside the house for security. It always put me on edge and I’d worry he was watching me when he was at work etc even though I 100% wasn’t doing anything wrong. Nothing felt private and I felt I couldn’t come and go as I pleased iyswim as he’d always know when I got home. I don’t even have find my friends on my phone now.

A family member has them throughout his house including in his daughters’ bedrooms.

Whenever his wife’s parents came to visit he would watch them on the camera while his wife got the coffee etc, and no, they were of no threat what so ever to the children.

His wife died a couple of years ago from a terminal illness. She died in the house and the whole thing was recorded on the camera he had in that particular room.

I wouldn’t want them on when I was home; I already dislike that DH gets a notification when I leave the house and come home through setting and disabling the alarm.

If it's for security my plan would be for some obvious cameras [even dummy] and some practical but hidden internal cameras. These need to be in areas that you want to monitor but not [obviously] in bathrooms or bedrooms.

So many times we see bad films where the crim has spotted the cameras. I must admit I rather enjoy the "rogue traders" being caught!

Obviously all legitimate visitors need to know that you have security.

I house sat for a friend once, looked after her cats whilst she was away for the week as she didn’t have anyone else that could and couldn’t afford to have them stay somewhere. It was a massive pain in the arse and I really hate not sleeping in my own bed but thought I was being nice. She showed me the security system out front and how to ensure it was recording each night, they live in a slightly dodgy area and I didn’t think it was too strange to have outside CCTV.

A few weeks after her return she let slip that they had a secret camera in the front room and had been on the whole time I’d been there. I’ve never felt more violated, obviously I’d not been doing anything I shouldn’t but it felt like the biggest invasion of my privacy and it really changed my opinion on her.

I have them inside and outside of my property/second home I can keep an eye on things when I’m not there and it sets my mind at rest. spend most time checking the back garden camera to see how my flowers are doing
