To ask WTF happened to DH and I yesterday? V weird

We have a 7 month old and 3 year old I’m on mat leave and DH is WFH (at dining table as nowhere else) in an intense city type job 9-6. He has an hour lunch and helps when shit hits the fan but he is BUSY all day with zoom meetings and call etc. As soon as work is done he’s a great dad and does his fair share. We have a cleaner every 2 weeks and I’m happy to do most house bits (eg washing) as 3 year old is in nursery 3 days a week so I have time. So all in all- good relationship, fair balance on things.

Obviously for everyone with covid it’s been intense and especially with young kids. Our house isn’t huge and we have a v small paved garden so have missed parks/swimming/kids groups/soft play but are getting on with it of course. Haven’t really seen family as his mum is high risk so a couple of afternoon in garden catch ups and my parents live 300 miles away so have just been on FaceTime. Usually we stay with my parents every month or so and see his mum regularly and she babysits, we have friends close by who we reciprocally babysit etc so we get time and the odd weekend alone.

Yesterday was weird. We both woke up and were exhausted. Like hit over the head with a frying pan could barely keep eyes open exhausted. Often one of us has a hard day after a hard night of wake ups with baby or cumulative of work etc and the other one takes the lead but we were both just shattered. Could barely function to make breakfast, neither could remember when baby was fed last. We went for a walk and were both like the walking dead just in a daze. I also did a food shop and forgot loads of stuff (I had a list!?!?) and just felt like I was walking through treacle. Got back and both kids napping and DH conked out on sofa. All day we were just so so so tired.

Anyway kids down had dinner early night at 9 and today we both woke feeling ok despite me dealing with 2 night wakings and DH Up at 6 with baby. We were both saying how weird and wtf was going on yesterday. I was starting to think we had a carbon monoxide leak or something really bad as we just couldn’t function. I’m quite scared in case it happens tbh.

I was thinking gas leak. We felt the same way, shifted house, and were back to normal, and that's what we think it may have been.

Do you have a carbon monoxide alarm?

Report
LouiseTrees · 29/06/2020 13:13

Get yourself a carbon monoxide detector. I mean it could have just been exhaustion but better safe than sorry I think.

Have you got a carbon monoxide monitor / alarm?

Doyouwantanothercuppa · 29/06/2020 13:14

It’s worth checking your carbon monoxide levels, even if you do feel better today.

I assume you checked the monoxide detector?
Although you were out of it in the supermarket too; it sounds like you just hit a wall yesterday. Flowers

Had similar when we all had a mild virus, just exhausted for a day.

It would also be worth getting a covid test done. The exhaustion is a symptom. I know you're feeling ok now but it affects people in different ways. You really shouldn't have gone shopping feeling like that though!

Definitely get a carbon monoxide monitor ASAP too

My brother had these symptoms for about 5 days and he is convinced it was the virus.

Does sound like carbon monoxide, I would go with your instincts in this and get your appliances & selves checked out asap. Do you have a detector? Did you feel any better in the fresh air?
Keep all your doors & windows open to circulate fresh air, leave the house asap and call
0800 111 999. Don't go back until the appliances have been checked out by the gas inspector.
It is scary but you will be okay, had something similar happen to us years ago now, but our detector had alerted us. A trip to A&E, a chat with the Dr and appliances checked by gas service (strong winds had blown back waste gases into our home throu a faulty vent Confused) but all was okay in the end.

I was going to say check carbon monoxide too.
But a few years ago dh and I both fell asleep on the sofa as soon as dd was in bed (V v v unusual and were only woken up by her being sick a couple of hours later check CO alarm and was fine so figured it was just a strange virus. 🤷🏼‍♀️

My first thought was carbon monoxide. Did you use any gas appliances on Saturday? What exactly did you do on Saturday?

We have a carbon monoxide detector but last week both felt the same albeit on different days. Watched the weather report and the pollen count was off the scale on those days so we've put it down to hayfever.

How were your children on the days, normal levels of perky or lethargic too?

Heat stroke?

My first thought is covid as dd's friend's only symptom was exhaustion. She is nhs so was tested and confirmed.

Plain old exhaustion?
High pollen levels can make me feel like this.
Too much heat / sun the day before?
Not enough water.

Covid? Maybe get checked as people can just be exhausted, but most likely a gas leak. However it's odd it just went away. I'd get a Coronavirus check just in case.

Checked the detector today and seems to be fine, kids were absolutely fine and we both feel ok today. I will call and get someone to check it properly ASAP but I don’t feel we need to leave the house at the moment. Perhaps a weird virus?

Ah maybe a covid test would be worth it. I’ll ring 111.

@bestbrowsintown I think plain old exhaustion is the likeliest thing to be honest!

If your CO alarm is fine I would get a Covid test just to be safe, but if that’s all ok I would put it down to the whole situation just catching up with you.

Good advice above. Could be exhaustion, adrenal wise, gas, or a virus.
