Deer leg in garden

I get my dogs deer legs to chew on (complete with hooves and hair). As it’s been hot my dog has been off her food and I gave her a deer leg on Friday to chew on. She carried it around the garden then tried to bury it in DH veg pots so I told her off. She then carried it to the back of the garden and pushed it through a small hole in the fence landing in next doors garden. They were sitting out in the garden at the time and the woman screamed and ran inside and her husband just said “what the fuck is that?!” I went over to the fence and apologised and explained it was the dog. He asked me where I got it from and if I make a habit of killing and chopping up animals!! I explained they are bought from the pet shop. He apologised but added “it’s disgusting though, the wife is in a right state”. I asked him if we could have it back and he refused to touch it so I had to go around to their house and get it myself (they don’t live next door, they live down the street but their garden backs onto ours.

I retrieved it and told DH that dog was to have no more until she got her appetite back.

Well she’s only gone and done the same thing with a big fucking black fury cows ear that DH gave her. They’re going to go ballistic when they see it.

AIBU to insist that DH goes for it this time?

Jeez I'm not surprised they weren't too happy about finding that in their garden! I'd be none too chuffed and would insist on you coming to get it yourself too.

Can you not block up the hole so your dog can't do it again.

I'm not a dog owner but no i wouldn't of bought those. The pig ears are ok as they are dried out and don't look too much like a pig's ear.... İ don't know. İ wouldn't freak out if it landed in my garden though. So I'm going to say YANBU if your dog likes them. Just ignore your neighbour and maybe patch up the fence!!

Blocking up the hole is number 1 priority. DH has just gone to shop to get the stuff to do it.

The cows ears are not dried out, they’re totally raw, floppy and hairy. Very gross looking

Thats horrible. Your dog does not need to chew on legs and ears. If this is even true.

The deer legs don’t look bad. Your neighbour must be very delicate.

Go around now and knock. Explain what happened and ask to remove it before they see it. Assure them that your husband is blocking the hole today.
Waiting for your husband to go around increases the chances of the lady to see it and cause her distress.

Any raw fed dog would be chewing on bones and ears. Much better than them chewing on “pedigree” crap complete with added sugar and chemicals! And don’t even get me started on rawhide. This stuff is natural and good for them.

Is this for real? What kind of dog do you have? I’ve had four dogs and never given my dog that and I’d be horrified to find it in my garden.

I have dogs and i would not be at all thrilledto discover these things in my garden. Fwiw i only give my dogs things i eat, I'm a "pescatarian", so it would sadden me to see parts of lovely animals as tasty treats.

Why on earth not? The dog doesn’t care what it is just that it’s a tasty animal.

This is hilarious. Sorry your dog has put you in this position again OP!

Your neighbours are being naiive - if they eat meat themselves, or have pets that do, then don't they realise that it's all just animals that have been killed and chopped up? People like their meat processed and unrecognizable and are horrified when it actually looks like part of an animal!

But yeah, you'll probably need to get your DH to go and retreive the cow's ear. Maybe if they haven't seen it yet, you could pretend your dog has just pushed its ball through, and quickly get it before they see it?!

And yeah, block up the hole!

Maybe the neighbours are vegan. Go now and get it. Your husband should have gone before going to the shops but he didn't. The longer it is there, the more chance there is they see it

Sorry, OP, but this is hilarious. I’m jealous since I haven’t seen any deer legs for sale round here and the butcher is already tired of me asking for bones.

Dear god there are some sensitive people here. I've seen these before. I might be a bit wtf if one randomly poked through my fence but I think I'd see the funny side once it had been explained.

Op just apologise and forget about it. Some people love a drama Wink

I think I would be shocked if this fell into my garden. I wouldn't have picked it up either! Your poor neighbour, get that hole sorted.

I bet this makes a good dinner party story. You could ramp it up now with a bit of particularly tragic road kill.

No, seriously - this is why dog chews were invented surely!

Are you fucking serious? Omg. That’s horrific. YABVU and seem to find it a bit of a joke?

I’m not remotely sensitive but I’ve deer in the garden and I’d certainly not want to see a dog poking half a deer leg through the fence.

Plus it’s fucking disgusting.

www.puppytalespetproducts.com/natural-chews who knew?!

I think block up the hole and watch the dog carefully, it's naural.

Dog chews are full of crap though, my dogs only eat natural stuff (they’re hyper enough without giving them the dog equivalent of Smarties!)

I didn't know about these until this thread so if I saw one in this situation I might have a WTF moment as well. Seems like several dog owners are the same.

Even if someone didn't have a problem with it they may just be taken by surprise so maybe cut your neighbour some slack for their reaction.
