AIBU?

OPs who refuse to accept they are being unreasonable!

Why do so many OPs in AIBU refuse to accept they are indeed being unreasonable.

Why post on AIBU if they only want people to agree with them. Are they just looking for an argument?

I think they post expecting to be told they're right and don't like it when they are told they are wrong. I'm with you op, don't post on AIBU if you're not prepared for the truth!

There was once a water super shooter thread years ago that was case in point. It went on and on and on with every single person telling them that they were absolutely being unreasonable, on and on and on it went.

I remember that, crosser, hilarious. Will try to find a link.

Oh, and YANBU, OP. I think a lot of posters come for validation, and are generally pretty entrenched even before the fur starts flying.

Either they keep repeating their reasoning over and over as the YABUs get more and more frustrated, like the supersoaker woman.
Or they flounce, like the current "To feel upset at her?" thread.
Or they dripfeed lies to try to turn the tide, like the flexi-time CF thread.

I'd love to know what that 20 year old is doing now!

Sorry, my comment was about the ds (8) super soaker, 12 years ago! Sounded random without context...

Had a quick read of that super soaker thread, reads like a wind up to me.

The most annoying ones is where they say “I don’t think I’m explaining it very well” erm yes you are but you are being unreasonable!

I've always wondered the same!
If I felt the need to ask advice from a bunch of strangers (which I've done many a time) I have to accept that they are going to give an unbiased opinion.
If I had 999 women telling me I was wrong and 1 person telling me I was right I know which I would believe and would readdress myself. I wouldnt argue about it 😂

There was one yesterday who succeeded in getting a deletion and I don't think it was right. If people don't agree with you maybe you are wrong and need to learn a thing or two!

Report
Hingeandbracket · 27/06/2020 15:58

The ones that make me laugh are the ones that don't get the response they expect and then start saying

"You're all nasty trolls/what happened to be kind/ didn't we learn anything from Caroline Flack". etc etc just because someone said their parking was unreasonable or something.

I remember one from years ago 🙄 seemed to only have mn as an outlet it was quite sad really
, lots of kids, always big dramas, wanted advice, got advice, didn’t like it and then wouldn’t do anything to change and a week or so later another thread similar issues.
Couldn’t work out if I felt sorry for her or disliked her

I find it comical, they always decide everyone is just horrid. And then there is always that one friendless poster who wants to be the ops best friend and says “yanbu op” And the op clings to them and says “ I’m so glad someone sensible posted”,

Then they flounce, 🤣

It’s much worse when the OP admits they were unreasonable, takes on board all the comments, and thanks everyone nicely for telling them that they were, in fact, BU.

Report
Sparklesocks · 27/06/2020 16:40

They are so confident that they’re in the right that I don’t think they’ve even considered the alternative in most cases, so they post on MN looking forward that validation and ego boost. Then if they get a sea of YABUs to their post it’s such a shock they go on the offensive.

There are many people who are genuinely open to hear they are BU and are willing to reflect and learn, but there will always be some who have never been wrong - not even once apparently! And will attack anyone who dares say otherwise.

I admit it’s sometimes hard to eat humble pie and own up to our mistakes but the world would be a much better place if we did.

I love it when the OP is clearly wrong and after 50+ saying so, comes back to state it was a reverse Hmm

I think sometimes it's that the OP has back information that they haven't given which means that the event on its own it isn't unreasonable, but with the backstory it takes on a different meaning.

If they start giving the backstory then they're accused of drip feeding, if they put it all in the info then they get "far too long to bother reading" comments.

However, I have to confess than normally when there's an OP that's clearly UR, and then they drip feed I don't tend to believe the drip feeds. I always suspect they're just then desperately casting around for anything to prove they are reasonable.

So I guess I am UR too Grin

I've never understood this either. I guess some people are just looking for validation of their stupidity.

I seem to remember one who was about to flounce because she was convinced that our regularly used acronym of OP meant Old Person. Therefore we were all being unreasonable and ageist. She took quite a bit of convincing that that wasn't actually the case and it really means Original Poster. I'm not certain she really did believe us in the end.

It's a shame MN encourage them by allowing thread deletion, when they don't go the way the OP wanted, because you know "identifying or OP recognised in real life".

Agree. "Real life concerns"
