Supermarket checkout situation - I’m so angry!!

Sjan82 · 26/06/2020 16:58

I was at ALDI this morning. There was an announcement that checkout 7 was opening. I was on the other side of the store, made my way to checkout 7 (took about 30-40 seconds). There was a guy loading his stuff for billing - that’s all, no queue. I stood there (say queue position 1). When this guy went to pay the bill, I moved ahead and started loading my stuff. Now, a woman from the next checkout (8) queue started telling me she was in the queue longer and so I need to join the queue at the back (of checkout 8). I stupidly apologised and went back to CHECKOUT 8 QUEUE !! So she was in CHECKOUT 8 queue, holding her place there. When checkout 7 opened, she didn’t move to queue 7. Still l, when 7 moved faster, she jumped in, sent me to the back of HER queue!!!! I was on the phone so didn’t pay attention. But I’m so angry now! The bitch just paid and left! I’m so angry for not asking her to fuck off!
This happened in the morning! I’m still fuming! How do you let this go and forget it?

By letting it go and not thinking about it. It's annoying but hardly worth fuming all day about.

Time. Your annoyance will fade.

Other People are a bit weird at the moment. More than usual. Stressy and afraid. I’ve noticed it coming out as irrational behaviour too.

At my local Aldi, and any other supermarket in my area at the moment, you have to queue in a certain aisle and wait to be called forward to a certain till.

Are you sure you didn’t miss the queue while being on the phone and accidentally go in front of her?

You fucked up, just remember for next time. "That's not how it works love, you queue per till, I queued for this one, you queued for that one." She had obviously mentally been waiting for either queue to move forward first.

In my local Aldi because of the virus they only have one queue for all the tills.
She was at the front of the queue and you tried to jump in front.

Actually @UserFriendly14 could be right, our small ASDA is the same, bloody annoying when someone just goes straight to the queue at a till when theres people queuing all down the far isle

Are you angry at her or you? She was in the wrong clearly but it doesn't matter what she shouted, you could have got on with unloading your shopping. As a rule I wait for the person in front of me to move over to another check out if it opens (out of politness) if they don't, it is fair game. You were there she wasn't so you should have stayed in place. It's done now so don't give it headspace but next time stand up for yourself and react quicker. If you don't agree with something you are always better off saying so at the time.

She was a CF, but you decided to move without thinking or paying attention. That's on you.

I think our Aldi is doing the one queue for all tills thing. It’s confusing. And totally opposite of the pre-covid way we all used to queue.

Let it go. Its not worth getting angry about it now and stress just raises blood pressure and lowers your immune system. Go and listen to some music or get a drink and put your feet up. Let all thoughts of her drift away like clouds in a summer sky.

If you’re actually fuming about this hours later, you seriously need to think about what’s going on in your life right now - and deal with that.

Glass of wine and move on with your life.

People try to do this where I work and are quickly sent to the back of the queue

Same here it's one queue for all the tills so being sent to the back of it would have been correct for our local store otherwise you were queue jumping. We can only go to the till when we are called forward.

People on their phones in supermarkets are a pita so I don't really sympathise with you. YABU.

Don’t get your phone out in a shop. As someone’s already said, it’s fucking annoying.

My local Tesco and Aldi have just one queue. Are you sure that wasn't the case?

Report

My DD moved the queue over in order the other day and got abuse for it. But why should someone be able to walk up and get served in front of people who are waiting?

But how do you know what the system is in each supermarket? There are markings up every aisle in our Aldi so I'm presuming you queue for each till. But there's no signage or staff telling you what the system is. Also there are always more people queuing in the final aisle but you can't see them until you get to the last aisle which you might not do if you are only popping in for a few bits.

But I do agree with PP, this kind of situation shouldn't have you fuming hours later. Are you under a lot of stress in your life generally? Why is this important to you? Try to let the small things go.

Tbh it's extremely rude being on the phone when queuing in the supermarket and not paying attention to the queues it's even more so rude when people are on the phone when the person is serving them. So I dont have much sympathy.

Local aldi and asda have just 1 queue atm so may be that you should have been behind her

It depends. Sometimes there is a central queue which then filters out, one at a time in order.
Sometimes you pick your queue and take your chance.
I do prefer method one as I seem to always pick the wrong queue to stand in.

I would think that maybe because you were on the phone you were distracted and not fully aware of what was going on and didn’t realise it was one queue for both checkouts and not 2 separate queues. This seems likely as it means people could socially distance more easily.

Don’t think it’s worth being angry at yourself all this time later though. Just don’t be on your phone whilst you’re doing your shopping next time and you can give the situation your full attention and avoid making the same mistake again.

Let it go. Annoying yes, but you weren’t paying attention and moved. So just let it go
