To think I can lose 1 stone/ 14 lbs in 6 weeks..

I've gained weight during lockdown and am struggling to fit into my clothes. We've booked a stay-cation for the 10th August and there will be a pool. Of course I will have to get in with the kids and i am just dreading it :(

Is it realistic to think if I stick to 1200 cals per day and do some light exercise (theres no point pretending I'm going to turn into a gym bunny) that I can lose 1 stone in 6 weeks?

Im currently 5ft 4 and 10st 6lbs.

I’m the same height and it depends how many calories you’re using to maintain your current weight. I think realistically 1200 calories might be high if you want to shift that amount. If you have look online for a BMR and TDEE calculator and it will tell you how many calories you’re burning currently.

My TDEE is 1400 calories to maintain my current weight for example. And you need to drop 3000 calories to lose one pound.

I’d recommend Jillian Michaels 30 day shred to change your shape significantly. You might think you’re going to die after the first one but if you stick with it you’ll be surprised how quickly your endurance improves.

Cut out sugar and booze and limit carbs, no snacking.

Maybe not 14 pounds at your height and weight, but 10 pounds is certainly doable and will make a difference. If you have been eating a lot lately you might even lose a bit more. I got on the scales this morning and have put on three pounds overnight. WTF?! My weight has been pretty stable for about 18 months, so I’m very upset about this.

I'd be surprised if you lost that much in such a short space of time on 1200 calories. Weight gain seems to have hit us all hard and we are most definitely not moving as much as we did. I'd reduce the calories to 1000 and aim for 10,000 steps per day.

I've put weight on in lockdown so gone back onto the weight watchers app. I lost 5lb I first week and it's starting to drop of me now 2lb a week. You can't go wrong with the point system if you do it correctly and some exercise. I walk each day.

You could do but you'd have to be very strict.

I'm the same height as you and weigh a lot more. I started at slimming world at the start of the year, first week I lost 5lbs, second week 3lbs then it dropped to 1 or half or I stayed the same the following weeks. By the start of March I'd reached 14 lbs off. That took me 9/10 weeks. So yes 14lb is doable in 6 weeks, but you'll have to be committed.

I’ve lost 10lb in 2 weeks sticking to light exercise and 1300 calories. I am veggie, cut down on alcohol and carbs, no snacks and 2l water. It’s doable with a plan if you work out your figures properly!

I think it depends how old you are. I could have done it easily in my 20s and early 30s. Now I'm 60, no way. I tried last year. Stuck to 800 calories for 2 months and lost 5lb. Rubbish.

As you aren't massively overweight (if at all?) I'd say it will be harder to shift a stone in 6 weeks. I wouldn't do anything drastic though. Just start with your health kick now and carry it on after your break in August.

A stone in 4 weeks on slimming world

I recently dropped a stone in five weeks doing a mixture of 16:8 and calorie counting. It was hard the first few days but now it's second nature and I find it really easy.

I've lost just about 1 stone 4 so far and have about another two stone to go to my goal, but I'd be happy to just lose one more.

I've lost 11lbs since the beginning of June. WW, low carb and I exercise every day between 30 mins and 90 mins. A LOT of water and booze only on a Saturday / Sunday (no wine, gin / vodka and soda). Three meals, no snacking. Another 10lbs to go and I'll be happy. Am over 50 and 5'8, starting wait was 11.13.

It's hard but very very worth it!

Intermittent fasting will do it, go for 16:8, it's the only thing that's helped me lose weight fast and also kept the weight off as I stick to it moat days and also exercise

Please don’t reduce your calories to 1200 or 1000 like others have suggested, my god that is so unhealthy and dangerous.

You need to fuel your body for the weight to come off, you need to ensure your hitting your macros every day (protein, fibre etc) you can’t hit them on 1200.

Have a look at team RH fitness I’m with them on 1500 calories a day and 10,000 steps a day. I’m 5’2 and started at 10st7lb 5 weeks ago I’m now 9st13lb so I’ve lost 8lb and it’s coming off about 1lb a week.

I gained 19lb in lockdown!

Because the weight had piled on quickly, it was quick to come off too. I lost 1 stone within 4 weeks and stayed the same for the next fortnight.

I’ve used fasting for years to lose/control my weight and it has great health benefits. You can also combine it with other eating plans.

There’s a Very friendly 5:2 Fasting thread on here with lots of advice and support.

I put 10lb on and can't shift it, found out I'm 6 weeks pregnant so I can't diet as such but obviously I'm healthy living - still can't shift the 10lb and I'm really annoyed af myself for baking all those cakes and making cheesecakes

But, in my defence if I hadn't baked and indulged I'd of probably been very miserable and depressed.

I've lost 1.5 stone in 7 weeks doing slimming world, but I was overweight to begin with and I'm breastfeeding which apparently speeds up weight loss. That being said I havent been following the plan religiously - if I had I probably would have lost more.

It is possible, but you'll be miserable!

When I want to shift a bit of weight quickly, I do intermittent fasting. 16:8 is the best (16 hours fasting, 8 hours eating), but that's hard. I find 14:10 is more realistic long-term. Basically, I stop eating after 9pm, and don't eat again until 11am.

emmathedilemma · 26/06/2020 12:16

You don't have a massive amount to loose so i think it would be quite hard. If you cut your calories too low then you won't loose weight because you won't even be meeting your body's minimum calorie requirements (probably 1200-1400 a day for someone of your size).
I'm probably a similar BMI to you - i'm a bit taller and a bit heavier and I've lost 6.5lb in 4 weeks on weight watchers. If i'd eaten any less I'd probably have passed out! I exercise every day, run or walk at least 5k a day (mostly running and often more than 5k).

Get Micheal Moseley’s Fast 800 and it’ll reframe your approach to food and you could lose a stone by your holiday too!

I don’t know if it is possible because you aren’t that far off a healthy weight, it seems a lot harder for the last stone or so. I’ve been doing 16:8 for about five weeks, sticking to 1300 calories. I’ve barely lost anything. But the exercise has at least firmed up my arms and legs. I’m 5 4.5 and 9st13. The extra stone was gained since September. Exercise will improve your figure even if the scales don’t move, plus it can help speed up weight loss if you stick to the calories and don’t eat more as a reward - I’ve been doing the latter but at least not gaining.

Doing Jillian Michaels 30 day shred or Chloe Ting Summer Shred on youtube will make you look like you lost more than that.

You can, but not healthily and very likely not sustainably. But sure, a very restrictive diet indeed for six weeks and most people can lose a fair of weight, even if they are a healthy weight at the start (which you are). Might not have the results you want though. I've done the starvation diet for rapid weight loss thing a few times and yes, the scales show a significant drop, but I don't tend to look good on it- for one thing a lot of it will be water weight and for another when I do rapid weight loss it comes off areas I'm not bothered about and remains stuck to areas I do want to shrink.
