I've begun watching the film as people were raving about it.
Is it me or is the story line horrible. Kidnapping a women into falling in love with you?
It's abusive, doesn't float my boat.
I'm a person who has been through DA, and I follow certain pages and people who are knowledgeable in this subject. Makes me feel uncomfortable seeing a women pinned against a wall, touched inappropriately, kissed when she doesn't want it. I know it's a film but some how it feels like it's sexualising it?
All this violent sex culture that sometimes results in death I find disturbing and films like this just glamorizes it.

Are you asking if you’re being unreasonable in disliking a film?

Sparklesocks Thu 25-Jun-20 22:11:33

If you feel uncomfortable and dislike it YANBU. I haven’t seen it myself so can’t comment, but I understand it’s an erotic drama? So not sure if it’s meant to be an S&M type thing?

MarkRuffaloCrumble Thu 25-Jun-20 22:12:10

DS is 15 and mentioned this last night as apparently lots of his friends have watched it.

He said it “sounded a bit rapey” and it’s no wonder rape culture is so prevalent if 15 y/os are watching this type of thing.

One of his (now ex) friends has apparently coerced a girl into doing something she didn’t want to do then dumped her. DS seems to be the only one of his friends who’s outraged by it. Hoping he doesn’t get corrupted by all this shit sad

It's not just disliking a film though. I'm angry that the world is like this and this film thinks its OK to portray this in a "sexual film". Abuse is not glamorous

summerrose11 Thu 25-Jun-20 22:15:37

I wouldn't really call it erotic. She's kidnapped against her will. She tries to get away but she can't. He takes her shopping and buys her all new clothes. She has to stay with him for 365 days until she "falls in love with him". When she tells him she doesn't want to stay and tries to run he grabs her. Hardly a turn on 🙄

Sparklesocks Thu 25-Jun-20 22:17:20

@summerrose11 I’m going by google which suggests it’s classified as an erotic genre film, rather than my own personal description of erotic!

underneaththeash Thu 25-Jun-20 22:19:30

It's not great - most 18 films/TV shows aren't though.
It seems at the moment that an 18 certificate allows you to show most things. I don't actually have a problem with consensual sex being shown in a film but I find the extreme gratuitous violence that's completely acceptable in most 18 films much worrying though. Teens being exposed to levels of violence that aren't normal or usual doesn't help our culture.

summerrose11 Thu 25-Jun-20 22:29:30

@sparklesocks sorry I wasn't actually having a go at you. Just saying in my personal opinion it's not. Hard to tell my tone in text

When I run out of fingers to count on , I start counting on my toes.
I already know that one is missing, so I put that into the equation.

@Samtsirch are you alright?

summerrose11 Thu 25-Jun-20 22:52:22

Why have you reported my thread? There's nothing wrong with it. Your posts clearly make no sense

iwilltaketwoplease Thu 25-Jun-20 22:58:00

Must have been the wrong thread.

I didn't like the film, wasn't what I'd call entertainment at all.

Samtsirch Thu 25-Jun-20 23:04:35

Not really but thank you
I suppose it was triggering
A bad night for me, and I apologise

botedbored Thu 25-Jun-20 23:11:16

It's so problematic so YADNBU however that man is hot!

Samtsirch Thu 25-Jun-20 23:14:39

Which film are you talking about ?

botedbored Thu 25-Jun-20 23:15:06

@underneaththeash makes a good point. I'm only in my 30s & find films & some TV ridiculously violent & graphic now which seems unnecessary.

I don't think anyone is watching 365 & thinking that it's ok to kidnap someone etc.

Sparklesocks Thu 25-Jun-20 23:18:47

I do think it’s interesting that ‘mainstream-ish’ erotica like this and 50 Shades have a violence or domination element with the man driving that. Clearly it’s appealing to a wide audience and it’s not my place to judge anyone’s kinks or turn ons, but it’s curious that it seems to be a very common theme.

Samtsirch Thu 25-Jun-20 23:19:32

Hope to goodness you are not talking about Priklopil.

MarkRuffaloCrumble Thu 25-Jun-20 23:20:57

i don't think anyone is watching 365 & thinking that it's ok to kidnap someone etc.

No, but much like that 50 Shades crap, it presents abuse as romantic. It blurs the lines between “she just needs the right kind of persuasion” and “rapey bastard”.

Sparklesocks Thu 25-Jun-20 23:24:48

@Samtsirch sorry I don’t understand many of your posts? The film the OP has posted about is 365 Days, which is currently on Netflix.

Samtsirch Thu 25-Jun-20 23:25:43

Ready to be corrected if I am wrong, as always.
Natasha Kampusch,
Is that what you are talking about?

Sparklesocks Thu 25-Jun-20 23:27:00

@Samtsirch No. Absolutely nobody has mentioned anything like that so I’m not sure what the intention is behind your derailing.
