Anyone thinking of going abroad this summer?

Sorry if this has already been asked but I couldn't see it anywhere.

Basically I'm just being nosy. I honestly think if I could just teleport myself somewhere else this summer I would in a flash. It's just the plane journey that puts me off (obviously I would go somewhere quiet). Is anyone still planning on going abroad this summer? Or now looking at cheap deals?

We booked 10 nights in France for August last autumn and have just paid off the balance. We are staying at a Center Parcs, so the accommodation is self-contained.

I’m just waiting for ‘official’ approval to travel to France and then we’ll book the Shuttle.

I’m desperate to get away. Don’t know if I’d feel the same if I was flying.

Can I ask if anyone has found travel insurance that will cover them for coronavirus related issues for "newly booked" holidays. I am having trouble finding anything.

We’re going. Our existing annual policy will cover us provided the government have lifted the “only essential travel” advice before we book. Got the holiday lined up, started packing, as soon as that advice changes, we’re in.

Cannot wait!

Interesting. I wonder if our annual policy would cover us then? They wrote to us in April saying only holidays booked before 13th March would e covered so I didnt even think to check.

Hoping to and looking at booking a villa / gites in northern France (with pool) so can drive there. If anyone knows of any companies that offer this, please do let me know!! Only ones I’m aware of are to fly to - which we may end up doing if nothing else available.

We’re comfortable to make our own risk assessment and reckon self catering with own pool this year will limit any potential risk for us and others too.

Can’t wait!!

Definitely worth checking.

Yes because the risk is far lower now with preventative measures. But only because we prebooked and have insurance cover. I wouldn't dream of going if I was booking now as you have much reduced Covid cover on insurance...basic medical and that's it

Would love to go - but I am not sure if it would be the same 'experience' as normal.

Think it's going to just be waiting till next year and then have an awesome holiday.

Not for me this year, but I have a family to consider and we like being out and about, so I'm not confident about what is on offer suiting us. I can't see our sensory autistic child dealing with masks, and I struggle with them for a multitude of reasons, and the risk of a quarantine in an enclosed space is even less inviting now than it was 3 months ago.

The tourism industry needs to open up in order to survive so fair play to anyone who finds the current setup workable Smile

Yep August, booked before all this and my travel insurance covers, had it years so not had to take a new policy.
Will be wearing a mask in the airport and on the plane

No, not going anywhere this summer. Have a Christmas break booked, but we’ll see.
I don’t think we will be welcome once we get there, despite government pleas.

Scottish, Cornish, Lake District and Welsh residents don’t want us there. I have rellies who live in Spain and despite their government welcome they’ve told us to stay away as their towns and villages have asked them not to have family to stay.

I’ll be spending it on my house instead.

We are going to Cyprus in August if they allow us in. Self catered accommodation and we will just enjoy the sun, pool and wine this year.

We had booked months ago to go to Turkey in late August.

If we can go, we will.

We watch and wait...

Spain at whit was cancelled and I’m desparate to get away. I would happily go to France and stay somewhere rural but only by car and shuttle or boat, not fly. We live in the north and I’m not good at long car journeys so it would be flying for us, so a no. So looking at a UK break but if lived in the south I def would.

Turkey in mid August. If the Foreign Office say it’s fine to go we’re going. Expect decent safety measures to be in place on planes in around 2 months when we go. We’ll be self catering so no hotels to deal with either.

Greece on 10 July - eeks. We have flights booked pre-COVID and are therefore covered by travel insurance. Our flights look like they will take off from London to Athens and so that means we will go. 2 weeks at 2 separate self-catering locations with pool. Very excited. Just bought summer clothes.

We booked ours in January and are definitely going if we are allowed. We are in a private villa so don't have to share anything and a car so no public transport or transfers. We have a full kitchen and dishwasher, so as long as we can get to the markets we're not bothered about eating out. We have a pool and lots of sunshine. Don't need anything else! It would be nice to go to the beach though.

My husband wants to book flights and a villa in Spain for August but I'm just not up for it, I love the idea but it's the plane journey that scares me. We have been really sensible and careful so far, dh says he doesn't want to go into pubs or restaurants yet but he wants to go on a plane 🤷‍♀️ Makes no sense to me!

No. Because I think schools are more important.

Just curious. When people say their insurance will cover them, how much are they covered for?

Looking to book a last minute week late August if we are able.

AI hotel, to sit around pool and relax for a week. Won't be wandering into local villages or anything.

Depends if the experience is worth it - if they want us to wear masks by the pool etc we won't be bothering.
