Hypnosis - anyone tried it?

Has anyone tried hypnosis as a treatment? Does it work?

I have a problem with sensitivity to noise and I’m wondering if there’s a way to trick my mind into not caring about it.

For context, I absolutely love where we live now. The house and location are beautiful, it’s perfect in so many ways, but we live fairly close to a section of motorway that’s on a flyover and the vibration makes it noisy when the wind comes from that direction.

My partner doesn’t even notice it, and it’s certainly not loud enough to hear over even quiet conversation etc, so really not particularly intrusive. There’s just something about it that i find stressful and oppressive - it cuts through all the other louder sounds for me (birds, dogs barking etc). Maybe it’s the pitch of some of the frequencies - I can hear very quiet, high pitched noises that other people often can’t.

I want to be able to ignore it and I wonder about hypnosis. Thing is, does hypnosis work if you’re not suggestible? I’m a very sceptical person.

Anyone here tried it? What for and did it work?

I have. It was rubbish, but somehow it produced the desired results.

i decided it wasn’t working for me, until i had a massive breakthrough. it takes more than one session, it will become easier as you get to know your therapist.

I saw one years ago, I can't even remember exactly why now, probably something to do with anxiety/depression. I remember feeling very, very relaxed and it was quite a nice experience but not one I could afford to repeat on a regular basis so I'm not sure if it would have made much of a difference if I'd had regular sessions or not.

I’m the most sceptical person possible. So, I went and trained as a hypnotherapist. As others have said, there’s an element of having to find a therapist who chimes with you, and of being open minded enough to think, I’ll give it a go. It’s not usually an instant fix, and may take a few sessions to really click, but I have met some people with astonishing success stories.

Think of it this way. If someone starts a thread on here and they’re saying oh, I’m useless, no one likes me, my family tell me I can’t do anything right, people would pile in and say stop talking to yourself that way! Tell them to look at their achievements and be proud. Why is that? Because self talk matters.

Hypnotherapy is about helping you to change your self talk, and/or the way you think about the noise, so you become more relaxed about it. You’ll still hear the noise, but like your husband, you’ll be able to tune it out, and it won’t be a big deal any more.

You are always in total control, you do not go to sleep, and it doesn’t matter if you can’t make pictures in your head, though you do need some imagination. Just enough, say, as if you were playing with a child. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Thank you, that’s exactly what I want to be able to do - tune it out so it doesn’t bother me. I know I won’t be able to not hear it, but I want to stop finding it annoying. I’ve lived in places with worse traffic noise but here it’s frustrating because everything else is so right I suppose.
