Paddling pool question!

Sorry..this is probably a silly question! Got DD 2.5 a paddling pool and the weather is set to be 30 degrees today. There is really hardly any shade in our garden. So, around what time do you think I should put her in the paddling pool? My neighbours grandchildren are a little bigger than her and seem to use their paddling pool in the late afternoons. Do you think it's too early and too hot in the day to have her out in the paddling pool now? She will obviously be wearing suncream whenever she does use the pool.

Will she keep a hat on? And a T-shirt over swimming costume if she doesn’t have a long sleeved one. I think she’d be ok for an hour with plenty of cover. Bring her in 12-2/3?

My 15 month old was in bed paddling pool from 9-10ish with sunscreen, hat & UV filter clothes in full sun. She loved it, I got too hot!

I'd do around 3-4pm, then the water has had time to warm up and the sun is starting to get dimmer.

Ideally, she needs to be out the sun between 11-3 on a hot day. So use the paddling pool in the early morning or late afternoon.

Thanks for the replies so far. @RhodaDendron yes she will have her hat on and as her swimsuit does it have long sleeves i will put a t-shirt on her. Good point though..I think I need to get her a long sleeved swimsuit as well.

It's much too hot even for me right now so I think I will put her in her pool around 3ish.

It’ll still be warm but less likely to burn after three as people say. The met office has a sun warning thing on it by hour which is handy. Eg

I would look at ordering a sun umbrella to go over. far easier for you as the summer goes on as its still pretty toasty most mornings early and afternoons on warm days.

For the next few days just suncream up, and let her use for max 30 mins at a time between 9-10am, and after 4pm

When mine was small she had one of those uv wetsuit type things that came to ankles and wrists. As long as she wore a hat she could be in the pool most of the day

We put a parasol up above the paddling pool, so it keeps it in the shade. We don’t let them out between 12-3 though, as it’s too hot.

Well I was a Nursery Nurse for a while in a large well known company .Their rules were everyone in between 11.00 and 3.00 .So maybe 3pm onwards would be OK .Our NDN have young children and are mostly out late afternoons!

Slightly of topic but dp told me to put bin bags in the water the sun heats them up and makes the water warmer.

Sunburn is definitely a concern but don't forget about the risk of overheating. Offer plenty of water or ice lollies if she isn't interested in drinking.
