CoVid Outbreaks in Europe - air bridges??

I am a great fan of getting the country out of lockdown, a massive fan of rebooting the economy and making every effort to safely and carefully resume some kind of normal life.

However, I am slightly aghast at the prospect that we are going to be organising air bridges all over Europe even when there are some huge outbreaks of CoVid, and lockdowns are being reinstated all over the place. Are we going to wait until it is out of control again before we take action and say actually that is a terrible idea?

I understand the economics, I understand the plight of the travel industry and their desperation to save their companies. If we continue to fly all over Europe this summer we are surely risking another lockdown here.

Is it not obvious that by restarting aviation and holidays overseas too soon we are just going to cause another spike here? Therefore damaging all of the progress we have made so far, and risking a painful and difficult resurgence, many more deaths, another economic lockdown and even more job losses that will follow - just for a holiday overseas??

Surely we could simply stay here, holiday here if we want to and wait until October and hope the vaccine is rolled out? Only then do resume our travels. If the vaccine is not ready, then we revisit the decision then?

I can not believe after all the deaths we have had - many tens of thousands, the economy here absolutely tanking and only just restarting, our lives resuming some kind of 'normal' we are going to risk it all for a non essential holiday of all things?! I am just incredulous that anyone in government is seriously considering this.

It’s obvious that they want another wave.
Preferably before winter.

Iirc, the airlines are taking the govt to court over quarantine (even though other countries insist on quarantine), so if air bridges weren't opened, the travel industry might take court action over that as well.

People don't have to go on holiday do they? They are choosing to do so. I don't think HMG can win here; if you don't open air bridges, you'll get loads on threads on AIBU manking about it, and if you do, people will moan about second spikes.

I’m afraid you should be worrying close to home especially if you are in England. I’m in Ireland and we are extremely worried about people from the uK coming over here. The rest of Europe is doing better than the Uk in terms of cases so I would think you could be safer over there (especially somewhere like Austria) unless there were other Uk passengers with covid on your flight..

You know flights have never actually stopped in and out of the UK OP?

Agree with @Moveslikejagger1, the UK seems to be the worse place to be in Europe atm.

It will probably get out of control again in less than a month from the 4th of July, and that's without anyone coming or going from abroad.

Very much doubt there will be a mass vaccine available by October either.

The worry isn't that other countries will bring Covid bag here, but that we will cause waves of it in other countries. I think the other countries are bonkers for letting us within a hundred miles of them.
