Put the money for the cigs in a jar. At the end of the week/month/year, treat yourself!

Thank you. Sorry about the voting: always forget to disable it.

Looks like I've become a non-smoker. I wasn't really expecting anyone to say otherwise but sometimes you need that kick up the proverbial Blush

Do what Pip says! If you don't put it away you find it gets swallowed up in the day to day living costs & you don't realise just how much you were spending.

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

The only thing i would say is make sure you are 100% certain you want to quit first before doing it. As much as i'm with everybody else wanting you to quit for the better, i think it's very important that your heart is in it! I work in pharmacy and i've seen lots of people fail because they weren't 100% ready!

If you are, then good luck 🤞🏻

So, quick update.

I went to the small row of local shops, as planned. But here's the thing: I needed to pick up something from Home Bargains, so I went there first. While I was there, I saw that they had eggs and fruit in stock – which I'd normally get from Asda. So I got all my stuff from Home Bargains and ..... they don't sell cigarettes. So I didn't get any.

Even though I walked past Asda on the way home, I didn't go in . It's kinda funny how a small plan like this kept me on track. I could have popped in to Asda but, because I didn't need anything, I didn't.

So my plan is to try and get my odds and ends from Home Bargains now and then go to Aldi for the larger shops; they don't sell cigarettes either.

I didn't have a cigarette yesterday. Go me Grin

That's brilliant. Stopping is hard, but it's so so worth it. I'm an ex smoker myself so I'm not judging anyone for smoking and I understand how the addiction is stronger then the knowledge of the damage it can do.

You have managed a whole day, keep busy today and you will be just fine

I quit cold turkey 5 years ago and have never looked back. You can do it! You should definitely do it and save the money in a pot

Well done. One day at a time and all that. Are you managing to get past the cravings?

DP used Champix (tablets from GP) to finally quit smoking after 20+ years of being a smoker and numerous other failed attempts at quitting using all the other techniques (willpower, gum, patches etc).

Ah brilliant OP!
I LOVE when people ditch the cigs!
I stopped smoking when I found out I was pregnant with DS and haven’t smoked since. Won’t lie, if I have a drink or ten then I could happily have a cig, but it’s just not worth the slippery slope!

Instead of buying cigs buy Alan carrs easy way to stop smoking off amazon or ebay. I read that book two years ago and haven't touched a cig since. Had absolutely no cravings either.

Yes, the cravings are not too much of an issue. I wasn't a heavy smoker to be honest. Pre-lockdown, I would have classed myself as a 'social smoker' – so if I were out and somebody offered me one, I'd have one.

I also used to buy a packet when I'd allowed myself to get wound up by something: either socially or work issues. Again, not constant but more frequent than I would have liked Blush

With the imposition of lockdown, it's definitely become a more regular habit and it's that situation that I want to nip in the bud.

I've made a start Smile
