To think the seagulls on our roof could be a tiny bit more grateful?

We have a seagull nest on our roof and two tiny chicks have hatched in the last two days. This morning, I found one of them in the driveway. Big softie that I am, I caught it and with the help of DH, managed to get it back up on the roof where it was greeted joyfully by its parents.

I have since looked out the window and seen that they have now copiously shat all over both of the cars, both of which were fully washed and waxed yesterday. There is so much poo, they will need a full wash again.

AIBU to think the seagull parents could have been more grateful to us for reuniting them with their offspring? Bastards

I think you're meant to leave little birds alone. They learn to fly by being forced into a position where they have to fly to get back to the nest.

DH is outside washing the cars now and he says he’s scared because the seagulls are stood at the edge of the roof giving him evil eye and screaming at him

We have loads nesting on our building roof. They party late in to the night and start early in the morning so not an option to sleep with the window open because of the noise, not to mention all the poop on the cars and windows and moss they throw off the roof on to the cars, gutters and pavement. Neighbours from hell!

Recently had a leak from the roof in to the communal stairwell. The factor sorted a workman asap but he couldn't so anything about the leak because there are so many seagulls and they dive at you as soon as you go up there. Workman said he'd need to go away and come back once the babies that had hatched up there can fly because it's not safe until then. Fingers crossed it doesn't rain badly before then 🤞

@contrmary at 2 days old it needed putting back in the nest. You're meant to leave fledglings alone but a 2 day old chick is a naked useless little snack for a wandering cat.

Seagulls are arseholes. We live on the coast and are overrun with the bastards. They are still classed as a protected species despite them being in extremely high numbers and an absolute menace.

They squawk all day and all night. They dive bomb us simply for daring to set foot in our own gardens to put rubbish in the bin. They try their hardest to get into the bins and then we have to clean up the streets if/when they manage.

The council took in a hawk and handler to scare them away from the town centre because they were attacking people but they ganged up and attacked the hawk.

There has been nets and spikes put up on buildings to stop them nesting but they have managed to tear the nets and yank off the spikes dropping them on ground which have then caused cars damage and tyres punctured.

Last summer they took to stealing small dogs from gardens too. I'm fed up of my cars being damaged by them and my family getting attacked.

They are vermin and need culled to get their numbers under control.

That's a bit harsh! Accidents happen and while they should be more careful the gulls shouldn't beat themselves up about it! It could happen to any new parent

OP can you call 111 for them for some medical advice?

Unfortunately I found one of the chicks dead on our patio yesterday evening. From where it landed it looks like it fell off the highest point of the roof. Poor little thing, I feel quite sad for it
