AIBU?

Woman bashing

There's a story in the daily fail today of Angelina Jolie talking about her divorce from Brad Pitt. Firstly I'm no Angelina fan and was definitely on Team Jennifer back in the day BUT....

AIBU to be so annoyed with how people blindly defend Brad and blame Angelina for their divorce without knowing anything about their relationship?

The story is basically Angelina saying she divorced him for the sake of the children's wellbeing. Considering there have been many rumours for years about Brad's drinking and weed smoking. Rumours Brad himself has admitted to, why is Angelina still getting the blame for their divorce? The comments section is full of vitriol towards her. And saint Brad can do no wrong.

This is a man who publicly cheated on his wife (Jennifer) humiliating her in front of the whole world. And who obviously has addiction problems. He also allegedly assaulted one of the kids while drunk or high which what has led to Angie divorcing him.

Why do people choose to over look this mans faults?

And it's not just with these two, I've seen similar happen to woman I know in real life. People automatically assuming the poor man just had to get away from his nagging shrill of a wife. Not knowing the abuse (financial, emotional or physical) the poor wife has put up with for years.

I find woman to be the worst woman bashers too.

AIBU to be so sick of it?

No, people hate women, look at poor Meghan Markle.

Probably stems from the fact he was seen as such a heart throb in the 90s.

Mens bad behaviour is always womens fault.

DV.
She nagged.
She made me do it.
She caught me out on my lies.
She's cheating.
She was late with my dinner.
She talks back.

Rape.
She was drunk.
On her own.
Wore short skirt/revealing clothes.
She led me on.
She said yes.
She said no but she meant yes.
She's stuck up so deserved it.

Man murders children/commits suicide.
She kept my kids from me.
She didn't deserve them.
She destroyed my life.
She made me depressed.
She wanted to take all of my money for child support.
She introduced them to a new man.
Its her fault.

Depressing but truthful.

Isnt that about the OW actions not the fact that she is a woman?

It's the daily fail - almost all comments will be like that. The readership are mostly men. It's a right wing newspaper. The way it's written will be heavily sexist and one sided to drive negative, sexist comments.
I deleted the app (only had it as they had lots of news stories) when I read a story about a male murderer. The fail's slant on the story was the main picture showing his partner and the main article and headline basically about how could the woman be with that man, not about the actual crime HE committed. It's vile

yanbu

classic misogyny.

mens bad behaviour is too often deferred to the woman in their life. it starts small - he doesn't have a card/gift for HIS family member - its his wife's fault for not reminding him, sorting it for him.

microscopic dynamics like this lead to bigger more obvious situations:

he hit her/cheated - she must have provoked it.

so tiered of it 🤮

Gendered expectations. Women are expected to be compassionate and understanding and kind. To our our detriment.

Any woman who does not lower herself to meet those demands is a hateful bitch.

The Mail traditionally is the only paper with a majority female readership.

That's even more depressing that hateful women bashing articles are read by more women than men.

I think there is an element of protectionism in order to convince it could happen to them, if that makes sense.
Eg I won't get raped because I don't wear short skirts, my children won't come to harm because I don't let them play out. My husband won't cheat unless he's bewitched & stolen from me. Hence the hatred for Angelina.

Can't say I've ever met anyone who has ever made any comment at all about their reasons for divorce.

The nastiest comments I have ever read have been on Mumsnet. Which is meant to be a supportive place for parents.

Perhaps unfairly - Angelina comes across as unlikeable.

Plus she was a co cheater on Jen Aniston.

But .. it certainly seems like the split isBrad's fault and I've had to overcome my prejudice against her to say that.

Which makes sense, given the Daily Mail is Mumsnet's most popular newspaper.

Hardly a day goes by without a Daily Mail reader like the OP, starting a thread about something they read in the Daily Mail.

Women tear other women down almost as much as men do it. And @LastRoloIsMine is right with the list. My ex has that mentality and so do both of his parents- especially his mother.

Angelina Jolie getting a hard time splitting up with Brad Pitt didn’t shock me at all. Even when he left Jennifer Aniston it was all JA’s fault somehow- she wouldn’t have children (allegedly) and how dare she deprive her husband of his “right”- was I think, the narrative. Even though BP was having an affair.

Similar happened when David Beckham cheated on Victoria with his PA. columnists were lining up to stick the boot into VB because “if she had only moved to another country with him to further his career instead of wanting to carve out her own he wouldn’t have had to cheat!” Or something. And I don’t even like VB all that much.

Women get a rough deal in general. At least this lot get some comfort from being stinking rich and successful in their own right I guess.

I didn't actually know about his drinking etc before reading that recently, but I did think he seemed like a bit of a dick .. because he said something about marriage/monogamy not being for life while married to Jen Aniston.

And she mentioned something about his lack of emotional intelligence of something diplomatic after he left her.

She also made of clear that she didn't say no to kids and it wasn't even on agenda before he "checked out".

Only thing i'd say about Angelina and it goes for anyone regardless of sex. If you have an affair that leads to the break up of someone's marriage, then chances are that person will screw you over/have their own issues as they did to their spouse.

Don't go after married men.

AJ is clearly not the world's loveliest person and was the OW to BP's adulterer. She wouldnt be my choice of friend, sister, mother, neighbour or boss.

But BP clearly had that divorce coming and AJ took the right decision (likely knowing people would revel in the painful destruction of her marriage) to end the marriage. She should now be left be to repair her life.
