Asking for positive stories of dental implants or false teeth.Feeling low today.

This week my crown fell out.Tried to get help and have to ring back next week.It has highlighted to me I only have one lower back tooth.I could cry.I have nightmares about my teeth falling out.
I was born prematurely and given meds that dm was warned could affect my teeth.As a younger adult I suffered a couple of spells of anorexia which I'm sure didn't help.As a child I had a manual toothbrush and several fillings .Parents didn't buy sweets or biscuits but I did get sweets with money I had.
Fast forward to my mid 50s.Always visited my dentist and I'm obsessive with cleaning my teeth she always comments how well.A recent electric toothbrush and sweetener for 15 years.
I 've seen dm get false teeth and not use them!.I've considered implants which I know are expensive.Please tell me your positive stories and give me hope
.Also to make matters worse dh has never lost a tooth eats lots of sweets and hardly brushes his teeth at night!!He is 60.

DP lost a front tooth. He was undecided about whether to have a partial denture or an implant as he's not one to spend money on himself.

I said if it was me we'd not even be having the conversation despite my dental phobia - it would be an implant.

It's been there 10 years or more now and you would never know.

DH needs implants, his gums are bad but it’s genetic he’s always looked after his teeth really well. If we had the money we’d do them no question. Friends who have implants say they’re just like their own teeth.

I have an implant, big back chewing tooth, and would thoroughly recommend. I'll be honest that the procedure itself wasn't much fun and needed several appointments (this was a few years ago so might have changed), but the staff were very kind and took it at my pace. The denture which sits on top of the implant needs a bit of ongoing extra daily care to keep it clean and healthy, but it's worth it to be able to chew properly and actually enjoy my food. While cost is obviously a factor, it's also important to find a dentist you trust and like - don't be afraid to shop around and ask questions. Good luck whatever you decide. Dental problems are miserable.

I'm seriously considering implants. I had a lot of root canal work in my early 20s and one by one, the teeth that had it seem to be disintegrating (I'm in my 60s, so it's taken a long while!). I lost part of a filling in one early on in lockdown and have a strong suspicion that the tooth is broken and will have to come out. I will then have only one pair left to chew with!

I'm going to get quotes for having them done abroad. I know a few people who've had all the assessment and follow up done in the UK, but the actual implants done in Hungary and Bulgaria and it's a fraction of the cost (in one case, the estimate for having them done here was £35k, and it cost £7k in Bulgaria).

One woman I know who had molar implants looked 10 years younger afterwards too, as the new teeth appeared to lift her face.

Lakielady I can understand the face bit.My dentist told me when I was 26 get false ones or risk the face dropping in later life.I do have wrinkles but prefer to think they are laughter lines.
I wonder if there is a genetic link as my nan had.false teeth in her 50s,60s.

I've had a lot if dental work due to overcrowding and root canals. Ive lost most of teeth except a few at the front. I have an upper and lower denture which fit onto my remaining teeth. They are fine. I can eat what I want, apples ,steak etc. It was only a little sore at first. I live in Spain , so cant comment on the cost, I paid over 5000 euros in total for quite a bit of work, a set of dentures and a bridge. Be prepared to look a bit of a mess for a while during the work whichever way you go.

My DH and I went to Budapest for our implants around ten years ago, I had seven fitted. We did a lot of research into our chosen dentist, they provided a list of patients whom I could contact for feedback and I spoke to four of them . We have since agreed to be added to that list and have been contacted twice for our experiences. Our clinic also has a surgery in London where we went for the initial consultation and we go for check ups and any 'normal' dental work. I can honestly say it's the best thing we have aver done and for me having very few back teeth remaining it was literally life changing .

I have two implants. I would recommend them BUT be very careful who you get to do them. I had my first one done in a London teaching hospital and had several students observing the procedure. It cost about £1000. My last was two years ago and cost about £3000. (Not London)
Please do your research thoroughly as there are a lot of dodgy dentists out there!

Lost my front 4 teeth a couple of years ago, combination of genetics and my job. Have ended up with a combination of crowns and false teeth. I chickened out of the implants I had planned.

But I'm so happy with the whole effect, looking back at old photos I wish I'd had it all done sooner.

I've hated my teeth for all my life. They were naturally very yellow. I had a system called bright smile done when I was 19 and my teeth have never been the same. Much whiter. Even though it's only meant to last 9 years. I'm 40 now and They are still pretty white. But my teeth have disintegrated since having my kids. I've got a gap (molar). Which I was having a bridge. But my dentist was bad........spent £4000 having a root canal. Then spent the rest having it fixed. 3 years later I had it pulled and the dentist said. Oh. That's why it hurt. I didn't fill it correctly. I spent over £5000 fixing it. Now the one next to the gap I think needs a root canal. It's wobbly. So I'm thinking just pull and implant.

I've had white filings on my front teeth. And now they are bad. I've spent 2 years speaking to a cosmetic dentist in London and I've finally saved the £15000 to have it all fixed and veneers. Yes. £15k! Not a typo. Bloody teeth.

I have one front implant, literally gave me a normal life back.

DH has all implants and I am pretty sure he would do it again if needed. They cost a lot but there are few things that poison your existence as much as dental problems. I reckon my implant was worth every penny.

I have one, strangely my regret is wished I had more as I could of chosen a healthier looking white. I have nerve problems with my teeth so veneers would only be a short term fix as they will sooner rather than later need to be removed.
