Should NHS staff go ahead in queues?

I have only done a few times, and got some evil looks from the others queuing. I was knackered and needed some essentials and needed to pick my children up from school as I have hardly seen them so thought 'just this once, again'-might not do it again!
It sort of felt like all the clapping in the world and rainbows doesn't mean much in the real world, but I might be a bit more careful about waving my lanyard around in the future (and yes, i'm core ward NHS staff working on covid wards fwiw).
Any thoughts from others very welcome.

Just before my place of work closed, I was chatting to a lovely customer who worked for the NHS who seemed stressed as fuck because she'd gone to buy loo roll in the only time she really had and there was none left. I know your question is about queues but from my point of view, I'm furloughed, I have way more time on my hands to wait than someone who is busy.

After all the panic buyers clearing the shelves, the amount of family time lost through work I really wouldn't worry about a few evil stares. People forget that not long ago they were celebrating the nhs and trying to protect it.

As in, I understand people wait ages (I have too) to get into shape but it's not like I abuse it to go in for makeup or something, when I actually use it I'm getting food or fruit for my kids. Don't use it everytime either if I can wait.

No. I’m NHS and there’s no excuse. I say this as a single parent working nights. Que like the bloody rest maybe someone has been in the line 20mins before you with a baby they need to get back home to or poorly children. We all have a busy schedule this does not entitle a to push in the que FFS.

Shop online or something there’s no need. I’d be mortified to push in. Shops are quiet now when it’s early just before 8am (Tesco)

Have you still got queues? I've not queued to get into Sainsbury's for a couple of weeks now. Honestly though, I wouldn't have minded at all when we were in the thick of it, but now we start to be getting back to a degree of normality, I might raise an eyebrow.

Sorry I just re read your thread. Yes I know. I didn’t mean to be so blunt. I can understand how people will frown. I just think someone’s mother could of died and they may need milk or something I just don’t think it’s right.

I've only once skipped the queue, had to take my son shopping. He has learning disabilities and really wasn't coping in the queue. I was shattered from long day shifts and really felt like it was in everyone's best interests to get us in and out as quickly as possible. I felt so embarrassed. I was also really embarrassed about the amount of free stuff being handed out, there are so many people going without at the moment, it could have been put to much better use.

I have a Blue Light Card. I’ve read on Mumsnet that some people resent card holders getting discounts. Can’t please everybody!

I've only used it a few times but have felt embarrassed too. I only use it when I'm shattered too. When I can queue I do.

I'm furloughed, I have way more time on my hands to wait than someone who is busy.

The queue isn't furloughed people or nhs workers though.

Plenty in the queue you're pushing in front of will be key workers or other workers still doing big hours, still with kids to feed and who are tired.

I understood it when there was a shortage and it was some shift workers only chance to go, but now it's just wrong

I have never used my nhs id to go straight in.

I work 13 hour days so only ever go to the shop on a day off anyway.

I only use it if I'm on the way or from work.
I do queue if I'm not on the way to or from work.

I don’t begrudge you at all. That said, I’d rather care workers were prioritised over NHS workers. They may be on a very tight turnaround. They don’t get much time for care calls and they may only have this one person to get them food.

No sorry and ready to be flamed but there are plenty of people in very demanding difficult jobs and very long hours with life and death responsiblity .

Queues are a lot shorter round here now than they were a couple of weeks/months ago. Everyone has their own circumstances whether they work for NHS or not so I'd never skip the queue
