Ok here we go. Hand on heart are this Govt fit for office? Before you answer take into consideration.

  1. Huge balls up with PPE at beginning of pandemic.
  2. The Cummings debacle and how they defended the indefensible.

3.The handling of the schools and the millions of children not having any education and still no concrete plans in place.
4.Track and trace app being about as useful as a chocolate teapot, although they were told it would not work 2 months ago.
5.The U turn after pressure on free school meals.
  1. Spending a million pound painting a bloody aeroplane.
  2. Dominic Raab likening Taking the knee to something from Game of Thrones.

They seem to stumble from one disaster to another. Are other first world countries governments as incompetent as ours seem to be?

They've not covered themselves in glory, but I think we are in less of a mess than we would have been with a government led by Jeremy Corbyn.

No they aren’t.

I can’t believe a Labour Government would’ve been worse.

Honestly it’s disgraceful.
Let’s also not forget that disproportional number of Covid-19 deaths in the UK.

No party would have successfully managed this.

Fuck me that didn't take long, did it?

Don't people ever tire of the utter poverty of ambition that says "my gang are utter wankers but your gang are worse"?

Pathetic.

No. Ideologically, I've disagreed with most Tory government's but I never thought that the Major government or the Cameron government were incapable of governing, just that I didn't agree with the way the governed. Teresa May tied herself up in knots over Brexit and made some terrible decisions, but there were still some relatively competent people in government at the time - Phiip Hammond, David Gauke, Amber Rudd, Justine Greening. The rot started to set in as Brexit became more central though and a lot of the more reasonable ones stood down.

The Johnson government was chosen purely on the basis that they would support him and were big Brexiters. They were not appointed on the basis of any actual ability to do the job. People who'd been recently sacked like Priti Patel and Gavin Williamson were allowed back in because they would suck up to Johnson, not because they were able to do anything. Many experienced and competent Conservative MPs stood down not only from the Cabinet but as MPs at the last election because they didn't like the direction the party was moving in, narrowing the talent pool even further.

The pandemic has really shone a spotlight on the fact we have a bunch of total incompetents running the show. They have been engaged in a battle to limit the influence of the civil service too so we can't even rely on things being done properly behind the scenes.

No, they aren't. And this is on them. They are the Government that sought election, was elected, and are responsible for their absolutely abysmal performance.

However equally inept, corrupt, arrogant, contradictory, opaque and incompetent a Corbyn led Government may have been is completely and utterly irrelevant.

Strangely I agree most of those were stupic mistakes, but assume stupid mistakes can be made by anyone regardless of party.

What i can't get over the brazen cheek of, is Dominic Raab thinking his opinion about 'bend the knee' was of any interest or relevance at all!

Who does he think he is?!

This government is not fit for anything. Just like the people that voted them in. They all have blood on their hands.

I don't think so, but I also don't think it would have been better with a different selection of Labour or Tory MPs.

I think what it's shown up better is that our governmental structure, from elected representatives to the civil functions supporting them and the media that report on them, are collectively just not up to scratch.

The first response - that's some kind of record I think Hereward.

I would love to know how you think we are in 'less of a mess' under this government. I actually think no government at all would have been less of a mess - people would have grouped together and worked out some way through temporarily.

As it is they have made a mess in every single area of this crisis and are on target to make a catastrophe of Brexit. The main issue for me isn't just the gross incompetence and arrogance - it's the continual, unrepentant lying that sickens me. The are not fit for office but we stuck with them.

Clearly not.

Can't believe people are still saying 'no one else could have done any better'. Pretty much every other European country has done better.

The stock response from every Tory is, '... but Corbyn would've been worse'. It's so unintelligent and tiresome.

Please explain exactly how Corbyn would have been worse. I would like to know.

Tell you what, why doesn’t everyone on MN who agrees stand for Parliament in the next elections and you run the country. It’s not as easy as it looks you know, they don’t have a crystal ball to see what’s coming, they have to act on facts as they have them

And There are MPs of all parties who are doing and saying things tga5 puss people off, all are as bad as each other

They have performed awfully, not just with covid either. The UK also had the luxury of being behind other countries, yet the government seemed to think covid wouldn’t be a problem here.

We know an earlier shutdown could have saved thousands of lives, we know an earlier quarantine for new arrivals to the country would be beneficial. We know that earlier use of face coverings in public would be beneficial.

Our government only cares about the few who have high levels of wealth. The governments handling of the situation should not be a surprise.

You'd have to be a fool to think it would be easy. I think that description easily encapsulates most of the morons that were conceited enough to think that they could do it, and are making one of the most epic cock-ups in British history of not doing it.

They had plenty of time and facts in hand to enable a far better response to the pandemic than they one they have provided.

I think part of the problem has been that our current set of ministers have been appointed mostly due to their stance on Brexit and because they offer unquestioning support the leadership. Most of them are very new to post. A lot of the more experienced (and more competent?) ministers and those who previously would challenge the leadership were sacked or resigned over Brexit.

As a result, we have been left with inexperienced, unquestioning ministers who

But they did have a sort of crystal ball, they could see what was happening in countries a couple weeks ahead of the UK. A lot of European countries took that opportunity to shut down and ramp up testing programmes, the UK didn't. Because it's run by idiots.
