To report antivax osteopath

Took my 4 week old DD to a cranial osteo. She was great, really helped and seemed lovely. Booked another appointment the following week and towards the end of the second app she asked out of the blue if I'd be vaccinating. I said yes and she started harping on about how I shouldn't basically, telling me to do my research and directing me to antivax websites/FB groups. She kept saying "I shouldn't be saying this as we're meant to follow NHS guidelines but...". I said firmly that I've done my research, she's my second child and I'll be vaccinating. Gave her the benefit of the doubt and went back the next week and she did it again, banging on about the evils of vaccines and how her unvaccinated children are fine, and more of the "I shouldn't be saying this but.."
I was really uncomfortable and made another appointment as she didn't really give me a choice and I just wanted out of there with my baby.
I'm going to cancel the upcoming appointment but honestly I'm considering reporting her to the general chiropractic council who regulate this industry. She owns her practice so nowhere higher to complain to.
How many other vulnerable new mothers to miserable screamy babies (like myself) is she doing this to? I think it's immoral and frankly dangerous and she can do whatever she wants with her own kids but a clinical practice isn't the place to share these views.
But I'm running on 3 hours broken sleep a night so not sure if I'm BU and overreacting!!

I would report her, by her own admittance she shouldn’t have been saying it.

OMG report her! How awful.

Yes, export her. It’s ok if she is anti vax because it has no impact on her ability to do her job if she kept her views to herself.
But since she’s turning every appointment into a lecture on not vaccinating, she should absolutely be reported. She’s giving out medical advice that she is in no way qualified to do so to vulnerable mothers who may think that her being a medical professional means she has inside knowledge or extra expertise.

Report her.

It's not really a surprise that someone who sells an entirely non evidence based hands on therapy, is anti vaccinations. Woo woo tends to go hand in hand with other woo woo.

Definitely report her. At best, its unprofessional. At worst, some other mother listens to her and decides not to vaccinate based on her advice. Given that the WHO have listed anti-vaxx attitudes as one of their top ten threats to global health and NHS policy supports vaccination she really should not be encouraging people to do the opposite.

Yes report her.

Report her.
People should not be trying to convince you not to vaccinate your child. She especially should not be using her job to try and convert parents to anti vax.

There’s no point in reporting an osteopath to the chiropractic council!

Something’s got garbled - but general thrust is that yes you should report breaches of proper practice to the regulatory body

You're not unreasonable, but she's an osteopath, what do you expect?!

I HATE anti vaxxers.

There's a post making the round at the moment commenting that kids are having more vaccines now than ever before...

You point out because they've created more vaccines for deadly diseases.... No no...it's just for "Big Pharma" to make money. Why else would you have a vaccine for a disease?? It's not as if Measles can kill you... Oh wait...

Why would you expect anything else from a quack?

Report
zoedoodle · 19/06/2020 09:12

Report this.

A bit Hmm at people bitching about osteos though - mine is the only person who’s been able to fix my neck and backache. You do know lots of things aren’t evidence based?

Mrskeats · 19/06/2020 09:13

Report. So inappropriate not to mention stupid.

Report
puffinkoala · 19/06/2020 09:14

Agree with zoedoodle. It's not her job to make any comments on vaccines, but osteopaths do a good job and plenty of people (me included) have had amazing results for their babies from cranial osteopathy.

Pretty much par for the course for osteopaths I would imagine.

We have a "complementary therapies" centre near here where the osteopath works with other quacks like chiropractors and homeopaths.

The point people are making is if you go to someone who's job isn't based in science, why would you expect that to have science based views on vaccines?

CaptainCarp · 19/06/2020 09:18

I don't know why people are saying "she's on osteopath what do you expect?"
Would you say this to physiotherapists & chiropractors to?

I would report:
www.osteopathy.org.uk/standards/complaints/

Were you referred by a hospital / gp?
I would also let them know.

The osteopath I saw, who was amazing and worked with Olympic sportspeople, shared his office with someone who did Reiki and Head Massage.

I'm not sure who you'd report her to, or what for tbh.

Is she a general osteopath or just cranial? What are the letters after her name? Isn't cranial osteopathy something anybody could set themselves up doing? Like psychotherapist?

Report
CherryPavlova · 19/06/2020 09:20

Bah She’s offering cranial osteopathy. There’s a good few charlatan osteopaths out there. There is no evidence base to offer cranial osteopathy on and in very young babies with infused skulls it can be dangerous.
Report by all means but even better don’t go to one.

Report
DappledThings · 19/06/2020 09:21

Would you say this to physiotherapists & chiropractors too?

Physiotherapist, no. Chiropractor, yes. For pretty obvious reasons.

The point people are making is if you go to someone who's job isn't based in science, why would you expect that to have science based views on vaccines?
Exactly. What would be the point of reporting them when their governing body almost certainly support their anti-vaxx views anyway.

Physiotherapy is evidence based. Osteopathy is not.

Why did you go to her OP?
Did someone recommend it?
What are your baby's issues? You said screamy but she's four weeks old, it's kind of on their job description. Flowers

Report
DameFanny · 19/06/2020 09:27

Please do report her.

Osteopathy has as good an evidence base as massage, but it's even easier to do severe damage if done badly, so it's really important to get the idiots on notice.
