AIBU?

To be constantly thinking of a book I read in the 90s but can't remember the title?

So, I read the book mid to late 90s, multiple times and for the life of me cannot remember the title. The plot goes a little something like this:

Girl moves to a new town (I think it's set in the UK). She befriends a girl Rosie (?). Rosie has red hair, her family is Irish. They are not very well off. She's a troublemaker in school. The story moves back and forth from past to present. Basically Rosie dies after falling/being pushed in front of a lorry. The story is told from after her death and from the build up to her death. I think the two girls fell out, possibly the friend pushed her in front of the lorry? Not sure. Also, the girl ends up dating Rosie's brother which may have formed part of the falling out.

The details are hazy so I'm not sure about anything I've said. I think the book cover was white and had blood on it.

Anybody familiar with it? It's driving me crazy.

Oh I know the book you mean, I borrowed it from the library multiple times but can't remember the title either! Wasn't the girl who died pregnant by the brother of the other girl?

I think it was an accident, they were fighting at the edge of the road, didn't one go to step out and the other pull her back and they wrestled and then she fell into the path of a lorry?

@BoobsOnTheMoon That's it!! You're bringing more back to me. I'm so glad somebody else remembers this book, I've asked so many people IRL and nobody knows what I'm talking about.

Love these threads, they remind me of so much I have forgotten, and get me thinking of so many things I can only half remember too 😊

Don't think it quite fits, but it sounds a bit like Vicky Angel, which my DD read when she was younger? She definitely had red hair and got hit by a car or lorry, but I've not read it in a long, long time. Was published in 2000 from a quick Google, though.

I was thinking Vicky Angel too, by Jacqueline Wilson... Doesn't quite match, but very similar.

@Lifeisconfusing Sorry! I know it's very frustrating. Especially because alot of the details are known, you would think it would be an easy search.

I can’t tell you the title....but I remember reading it and thinking books don’t usually contain people squished under lorries !

I’m impressed at the quality of your reading material. When I was young I was devouring my mother’s bonkbusters!

It wasn't Vicky Angel, or anything by Marian Keyes.

Definitely young adult fiction.

Hmm, was it Tulip Fever? Hazy on the details of that but some of what you’ve said rings a bell.

@BoobsOnTheMoon No I didn't, unfortunately! Will keep trying though.

@SherbertSaucers sorry only saw your reply now but it wasn't Tulip Fever either.
